Sheldon Cooper is an abusive boyfriend.

Here is a thread why I think so...
Amy Farrah Fowler was brought in as a girlfriend for Sheldon.
When we first meet Amy, she is sheltered, socially inept and has some weird relationship with her mother. Sheldon feels some level of kinship with her, because like him, she is a genius.
What's more, she seems to hold his intelligence in high regard.

Amy slowly pries her way into Sheldon's life. And the end result? He treats her like dirt, all the time! He hates doing anything she wants, is derisive to her. Any affection he shows her is by trickery.
In one of the most tragic episodes, she fakes being sick so he'll take care of her. How does this episode end? With him punishing her for deceiving him by spanking her. He literally punishes her physically for misleading him.
Of course, the audience is supposed to laugh as she enjoys it! NO! That's messed up!

And Sheldon does open up, it's always by ridiculously small gestures.
There is an episode where Sheldon decides to keep a gift that he had Margo(Raj's ex) find and instead gives Amy proof that she is now his "in case of emergency" person. What the heck is that? Thyini
To clarify, Sheldon's idea of affection is telling Amy that in the event of something bad happening to him, she has to take care of it! Now, I know the one defense coming -- Sheldon has some form of autism and doesn't get normal social cues right?
I think my next point deals with that. Let me know if I'm wrong.

Sheldon is emotionally and physically abusive to Amy. And we watch her take it. It's tragic but not unfounded (Leslie Morgan Steiner: Why domestic violence victims don't leave | Video on http://TED.com )
And it gets even worse. All of Sheldon and Amy's friends observe this behavior. And you know their response? They want to know if Sheldon will have sex with her?
Yup, there was an episode that revolved around Amy actually standing up to Sheldon. Instead of confronting Sheldon over his poor treatment of Amy, they instead want to know "Why haven't you slept with her? Will you ever!"

Wanna know what was his response?
He says one day he might. All good! (That's sarcasm, in case it doesn't come across) Apparently, it's better for Amy to be with a boyfriend, even an abusive one as long as he'll actually give sex to a nerd.
You know what, writing this all out, it's even more messed up than I thought. The Big Bang Theory has taken a smart, attractive neuroscientist, taken away a lot of her power, put her in an abusive relationship in a universe where all the characters are alright fine with it.
And they expect us to find it funny. You know what Big Bang Theory, that's messed up and bugs me and we're done.
