A Thread on the 1940's & 1950's Newspaper cartoons on Hindu Code Bill.

1) Cartoon published on March 18, 1949 in The Tribune during the Hindu Code Bill debates in Indian Parliament, drawn by cartoonist B Verma.

After winning the first general elections on April 1952, Nehru split the Hindu Code Bill into four separate bills.

These were met with significantly less opposition, and between the years of 1952 and 1956, each was effectively introduced in and passed by Parliament.
When the bill was finally passed in 1956 as four separate parts, Dr Ambedkar was present in Rajya Sabha.

There was common penal code drafted in the 1830s by Thomas B Macaulay but the British did not interfere with the personals laws of the different religions and cultures.
