With so much hue & cry in SM abt Bengal&Mamata, we are all missing a very imp.point How much outrage is there in WB itself?
Practically none.
Would any politician with national ambition do such blatant appeasement ?? Unlikely
Why she's so sure abt the policy?
Bcoz-

She KNOWS a side of bengali mindset that rest of India doesn't.
Bengalis call WB as Desh=nation &
India as
Jati=union.
This has been there from early 19th C.
Bengali Communalism is based NOT on RELIGION BUT on LANGUAGE
Whosoever speaks Bengali is a kin,irrespective of religion

So a"bengali speaking" B'deshi is nearer to their heart thn Hindi speaking Bihari or any one
This fact was very obvious in 1905 when British tried
1st Partition of Bengal ther was so much opposition tht British had to reverse it. In 1947 2nd partition happened was not reversed.-

So Bengalis hate Gandhi 4 tht. In 1970 when W.Pakistan's oppression of E.Pak started WB was most sympathetic.1000s crossed over &were welcome for same Kinship of bengali language.only a few protested
In 1970 B'Desh was created
WB rejoiced it most but still refugees kept coming

Jyoti Basu was shrewd to realise this & helped settle them in WB &entire NE, created a huge vote bank
as a result of which they ruled for uninterrupted 35 yrs.Mamata was equally shrewd ,understood the importance of it,wooed 'em slowly
Nandigram was a tactical move on her part

She used it skillfully against the newly,opening up communist regime's Development policy &the rest is history.
Now in addition to B'deshis Rohingyas are settling who again r bengali speaking -mostly
No public outcry.
Mamata WILL handle it wth "AAMRA BANGALI"
a winning slogan

Which catches every Bengali heart.
Any Political party which wants to oppose Mamata must use a tool which can override
"AAMRA BANGALI"SLIGAN &PSYCHE unique to WB only.Where British & Communists failed one has to wait &see if BJP succeeds.
Bengalis r STAUNCH HINDUS as far as -

The religion goes.
But FOR matter of "DESH" it the LANGUAGE THAT RUKES THE ROOST
I have spent 35 yrs in WB mixed with all types of bengalis.seen their lives from close. Life is very hard there is a lot of poverty which other states can not even imagine.
But for rich or poor

Educated or illiterate
Man or Woman
Every Bengali
is well aware of
and
proud of three things -

Their Land
Their Language
Their Culture

And
I love and salute them for that-different but equally wonderful type of patriotism
Irrespective of political leanings!!
