Everyone knows about the famous Shakti Peetha in India where Lord Shiva’s wife, Sati’s body parts fell after her death. But they didn’t fell only in India; there are several other Shakti Peetha that are located in other countries as well. So let us know about them too!
According to legend much before the Vedic culture Lord Shiva got married to Devi Sati but her father disliked Shiva at a great extent, as Shiva used to live among all sort creatures, be it human, demons, beasts, ghosts and all others.
Daksh Prajapati once arranged a yagna in which he called all the great kings of the earth, lords of heaven and all celestial beings but did not invite the husband of his own daughter lord Shiva, this offended Sati at a very deep level, she took it as great insult of her husband
Devi Sati asked her father to apologise to her husband, but he refused to do so and made fun of him instead, this angered Devi Sati even more and she jumped into the fire of the yagna, to make sure the yagna will be considered impure.
But Devi Sati was not a normal human being she was a goddess.
Her soul immediately transferred to another body which we know as goddess Parvati today, seeing her wife dead, Lord Shiva became extremely angry and got into his rodra roop.
Shiva took dead body of his wife and starting doing tandava, which shook whole of the universe, terrified with this all the heavenly lords “the devtas” went to Lord Vishnu for help.
Lord Vishnu on hearing this followed lord Shiva around the universe and released his most fierce weapon Sudarshan chakra and cut of Devi Sati’s dead body into pieces, altogether these pieces fell at the different place, where the temple is formed to worship the goddess.
Brahmarandhra of Sati fell in lyari Tahasil in Baluchistan province of Pakistan which is 125 km away from north-east of Karachi, Pakistan. This temple is located in small natural Cave, where she is worshiped in a small round piece of stone, smeared with sindoor (vermilion).
Here the incarnation of Adhya Shakti, who killed Mahishasur, is http://worshiped.It ’s located near Parkai railway station, near Karachi. The eyes of the Sati fell here. The Goddess is worshiped as “Mahisha-Mardhini and Krodish” (symbolizing the angry figure of Lord Shiva).
Shakti or Devi Sugandha also consider as Ekjata, situated in Shikarpur in Bangladesh. The nose of Sati had fallen and here she is in the form of “Sunanda or Devi Tara or Ekjata and Tryambak” appears as airabh. This temple is famous for the festival in Shiv Ratri or ShivChaturdasi
This temple of Adhya Shakti is located near to Pashupatinath Mandir in Kathmandu, Nepal. Guhyeshwari lies about 1 km east of Pashupatinath temple. Here, the knees of Sati had fallen, she is in the form of Devi Mahashira and Kapali appears as Vairabh.
Dakshayani Shakti Peeth also known as Mansi Shakti Peeth is in the form of a stone slab near Kailash Mountain, Mansarovar in Tibet. Here, the right hand of Sati had fallen, she is in the form of Devi Dakshayani (who destroyed Daksha Yajna) and Amar appears as Vairabh.
This Shakti Peeth is in Muktinath, in Nepal, near the bank of river Gandaki. Here, the right cheek of Sati had fallen, she is in the form of Devi Gandaki-Chandi and Chakrapani appears as Vairabh. The importance of this holy place is also described in Vishnu Puran.
Chandranath Peetha is on the top of Chandra-Nath Hills, Near Sitakunda Station, Chittagong, in Bangladesh. Here, right arm of Sati had fallen, she is in the form of Devi Bhawani and Chandrashekar appears as Vairabh.
Left thigh of Sati fell in Kalajore, Bourbhag village, Near Jaintia-pur, Sylhet District, in Bangladesh. She is worshiped in the form of Jayanti Shakti and Kramadeeshwar & appears as Vairabh.
This Shakti Peeth is in Kumari Kunda, Chittagong District, in Bangladesh. Here, the spine of Sati had fallen; she is in the form of Devi Sravani and Nimish as Vairabh.
On Sri-Shail of Jaunpur Village, 3 km north-east of Sylhet town in Bangladesh, the neck of Sati had fallen. Here she is in the form of Goddess Maha-Lakshmi and Shambaraanand appears as Vairabh.
