"Men are geniuses, and women generally are not".

Speaking to some men recently, it's hard not to come away with that conclusion. All of which would be funny if it wasn't so sad how our understanding of the term 'Genius' shows our deeply rooted prejudice.
Here are a number of people I've heard men call genius over the last few months; Elon Musk, Kanye, Chris Martin, Chappelle, Zimmer, Tupac, Christopher Nolan, LeBron, Federer, Guardiola, Tiger, Drake, Bocelli, Jay Z, Jagger, The Beatles, Mercury, Sorkin, Childish, etc
And for the most part, I subscribe to most of them, they do things that push the realm of their field to new ethereal heights. But while we were having a chat about musical geniuses, I mentioned Beyoncé and the room went silent. Now these are educated and liberal thinking men...
...and yet the general consensus was "I really love her and her music but I think we're pushing it too far to call it genius" I was a little stunned. Topic moved on to sporting genius and my mention of Serena had the same reaction. This time it was because she doesn't have rivals
I mean...I had heard someone give a 15 minute soliloquy about the genius of Donald Glover (who I love btw) and how Drake is a genius for knowing how to chart better than artist but not Beyoncé. Not Serena. They all agree both are phenomenal, but not quite genius.
It made me realise that a lot of men struggle to associate women with that word, even when logically they'll accept that women are smart and all that good fluffy stuff. Even when we are educated, we men still struggle to view women through the same prisms we view other men.
That's why a man who idolises Future can open his mouth to say "why do women even worship Beyoncé, it's not like she's given you anything"

Funny thing is as I pointed out their prejudice, they started to redefine the parameters of genius rather than accept they were wrong.
They started to eliminate men they swore 30 minutes ago were genius rather than accept that the two women I mentioned before. They started to mention women within the academic field, but it's easy to accept a female genius in academia where it's not subjective like the arts.
It made me think about how much words have power and how the systems predominantly designed by men favour men & it allows men think "women are good, but just not as good as men" . And these casual/closeted misogynists lap it all up, even when they say "I love and respect women".
These closet misogynists are stepping out of the closet more and more. Recently they've started saying "I can't accept any message of feminism that is angry". I say to them, if you were a woman, you'd be angry too, all the damn time.
I say to them that dabble in the casual hatred of women, when has any Social change happened because the oppressed coddled the emotions and comforts of their oppressors?! If you don't get that you're either obtuse or just unwilling for any change, at least say that it your chest!
It is a bit rich that this is coming from men that you'll find are unable to explain why Pogba is better Gerrard without resorting to anger and insults. Ask them who is greater Kobe or LeBron and watch them froth at the mouth in less than 15 minutes.
Yet, they want women, to explain calmly why their lives matters, and why they need equal rights & opportunities??!! Wild.

Please be feminist with your chest! Ignore these closet misogynists. They don't want logic or calm, they piss on women and want them to call it rain.
