Okay. Wait. My lil brother had to go to counseling for years because he stepped on a crack the morning my Mom had a slip-and-fall at work. Blamed himself for years.

I don't remember what had him upset that morning but he was not trying to hear anything my Mom said. And so? When we finally left for school, this boy stepped on every crack. It took him eight extra minutes to get to the bus stop. Smh
We get off the bus & walk the rest of the way to school. At this point, he's had time to think about his grievance and so he is now JUMPING on cracks. His twin says, "Good thing it's not true." And he yells back, "I WISH IT WAS!"
I'm just mad because we're gonna miss breakfast.

This lil boy spends the entirety of his recess finding cracks. He spends the entire commute home? Finding cracks.
This is where it got funny to me.
We get home around 3:45/3:50 and the routine is to call our Mom to let her know we're inside. She doesn't get home until 5:00.

So we call and her coworker tells us, "Oh she's not here. She had to leave to go to the doctor."
My brother heard this because my Mom would have me call on speaker so she could all three of us.
His whole mood changes. He says, kinda panicky, "For what?!"

The coworker, who couldn't hold water if you gave her a spillproof container, saysâŠ
"She fell at work. Hurt her knee and her back."
Y'allâŠ

My lil brother really hit one of these:
His twin did this:
AND THE WORLD'S BEST BIG SISTER (me) DID THIS:
Now I knew it probably had nothing to do with antics that day. But he didn't. He was in like 2nd or 3rd grade. Still impressionable.
And I used it to my advantage for about two years. LMAOOOOO

So! His teacher noticed he was depressed. She thought it was because significant people passed in back-to-back years. She pulled him to the side and he basically cried:
"I broke my Momma!?!"
And because he wasn't like me (overly imaginative)? She recommended him for counseling.

Like the fifth session? He opens up. Tells the counselor what really has him depressed. Counselor shares it with my MomâŠ
Who eventually tells him how she fell.
A pipe burst at work and there was a puddle on the floor. She literally slipped and fell.

And I got in trouble (at this point, it's been almost a year since she fell) becauseâŠ
My Momma told me the day she came home what happenedâŠ
And I said nothing.

That was his most well-behaved year ever. And? I'm still mad she told him. That lil boy was off the chain. LMAOOOOO
So I was reminded of something.
My brother who did this?
He's 29 now.
He STILL apologizes to my Mom whenever she says her back hurts.
