Okay y’all: a few words to share about African entrepreneurship:
First of all, pan-Africanism is a real idea, and one I am very supportive of. It is okay to refer to “Africa” as a pseudo-monolith under these circumstances. In fact, it is good!
Africa has 1.2 billion people. As big as India (1.3b) or China (1.4b). And *10 of the top 10* fastest growing cities on Earth are in Africa. Nigeria alone will add 200 million people to their population by 2050...
A word about Dar Es Salaam and Lagos: today their populations are 4 million and 21 million.

By 2100, there are projects that Dar grows to 72 million. Lagos, 100 million. 100 fucking million person city. Just think about that for a second. Demographics is destiny.
Today, the continent is very underinvested as a function of opportunity. A large share of today’s investment is extractive (mining, refineries). A fair amount is slow & risk-averse at best, if not counterproductive (development banks). But there are incredibly promising signs.
Fiber optics and satellites are being laid and launched, manufacturing, banking, telco, are all growing exceptionally fast, minting billionaires. The infrastructure for a creative knowledge economy is taking shape. (🇨🇳 knows this. Do you?)
And what I’m most excited about, particularly in the last 3-5 years, is my favorite leading indicator: the incredible talent concentration that is emerging. Product designers, venture investors, and engineers are taking risks, making waves. I wanna highlight just a few of them:
Investors who are literally brilliant, and from whom I learn every time I’m with them:
- @PuleTaukobong, @eosiakwan, @kola_aina, @mayahorgan, @Mbwana to name a few.
CEO’s, and product designers who will build multiple billion dollar companies. Yes, multiple. And well on their way with at least one:

- @iaboyeji, @rockson2, @aishapandor, @katlegomaphai, @markessien, @rapelangrabana, @afromusing
These are not comprehensive lists, but represent 🇰🇪, 🇿🇦, 🇳🇬, 🇬🇭, 🇹🇿, 🇧🇼, and more. The train is leaving the station. And they need more capital. Much more. DM me if you want to meet them with $$, or can intro me to others. 👊🏾
