With scams and looting from banks rocking the self-proclaimed "stable" and "corruption-free" government at New Delhi, what is conspicuous is the silence of yet another self-proclaimed "anti-corruption crusader" Subramanian Swamy. How many of us know his past activities?

This man has stabbed many people in the back: Kalaignar MK, Chidambaram, AB Vajpayee, Moopanar and Margaret Alva, for starters. People who helped him in good faith bore the brunt of his venom.

Justice Sabyasachi Mukherjee setup a committee consisting of Justices B. C. Ray, Jagannath Shetty and MN Venkatachalaiah of the SC to probe V Ramaswami for spending an extraordinary amount of money to renovate his official residence when he was CJ of Punjab/Haryana HC till 1989.
Reports on these first came out on April/May 1990. Later on that year, more reports of financial irregularities cropped up against Ramaswami. On 02/01/1991, the SC Bar Association passed a resolution to impeach him.

a motion to the Speaker to remove Ramaswami over these and 11 more charges of abuse of powers. Congress opposed this but never mentioned why.

And formed a committee comprising of Justice PB Sawant of the SC, Chief Justice PD Desai of the Bombay HC and Justice O Chinnappa Reddy, retired judge of the SC, to inquire into the charges.

He and AG G Ramaswamy advised the govt that the impeachment motion had lapsed on dissolution of the House and the govt refused to issue the necessary notification.

On 01/14/1992, the inquiry committee started probing V Ramaswami (who refused to cooperate) and made a charge-sheet with 14 charges and gave them to the judge for his response.

Ramaswami tried to scuttle the investigation but in vain. He was found guilty in 11 of 14 charges. However then PM PVN Rao managed to scuttle the motion to impeach Ramaswami by asking 205 Congress+ MPs to abstain.

NK Singh was the Joint Director of CBI then. He discovered that money was hoarded in the Caribbean island St. Kitts and started investigating.
The controversy began in March 1989. NKS was probing the role of PVNR (then external affairs minister), Chandraswami and others.

This man NK Singh arrested Indira Gandhi in her house on 10/03/1977 in a Jeep Scandal case and also prosecuted Sanjay Gandhi and VC Shukla in the Kissa Kursi Kacase in 1977.
He was looking into the St. Kitts matter. VP Singh won big in 1989 and became PM. He stayed till 1990.

Once Chandrasekhar became PM and Subramanian Swamy the Law Minister, the first thing they did was transfer NKS out of the CBI. This was after he started sending notices to Chandraswami in early 1991. Swamy personally intervened to get NKS out, to save his friend Chandraswami.
