It's a shame we never got to see the animatronic rig for #Venom that was going to be used in #Spiderman 3.
This Venom looks a bit more comic accurate in his design!
Venom's weird human mouth that can only be seen in the film for a few frames looks kinda funny.
Here's a look at the Venom suit that was worn for Spider-Man 3.
Here's the Venom that Peter sees in the mirror when wearing the Black Suit. No symbol on the chest. This scene from put back into the Editor's Cut of Spider-Man 3, but the part where Venom is in the mirror was not added back.

From this trailer:
This is an early look at what Venom could've looked like in Spider-Man 3, this was taken from the leaked comic-con trailer.

Venom’s final look in Spider-Man 3
Here’s one for action figure fans, the reason why the first Venom figure was purple was because Venom was purple during costume tests! This was fixed with the Limited Edition Venom figure, with movie accurate colours.
The reason why Venom was purple at one stage was due to Raimi and crew taking inspiration from the Ultimate Comics! As evidenced Eddie Brock being Eddie Brock Jr in the film, like in the Ultimate Comics :)
Some pictures of a very purple Venom suit. However, this could be the lighting as it looks pretty similar to this darker, black Venom suit.
This picture shows early costumes tests for Spider-Man's black suit that were far more comic accurate.
This is an animatronic bust of Black Suited Spider-Man (apparently). Pretty interesting if true as the Black Suit could've looked wildly different to how it did in the film. However, the design looks more like an early test of Venom (without the mouth).

Back to Venom, here's a look at the complex technical work for the mechanical mask understructure for the Venom suit, worn here by Topher Grace.
This Venom concept art looks fairly accurate to this costume!
A sculpture for Venom that seemed to be the inspiration for the Venom animatronic.
Some other shots of the costume test for an early Venom design.
It seems at one point in the film, during the final battle, when Eddie is removed from the Symbiote, the Symbiote tries to reattach itself to Peter. This was seemingly cut.
This is a video of the Muscle & Skin Musculoskeletal Skinning software used for the CGI Venom model. It gives a great look at an early Venom costume in movement.
Here is a potential deleted scene from #Spiderman 3 featuring #Venom
The scene could be before or after Venom first meet Sandman, as the architecture looks similar. However, this could just be an animation test for the CGI Venom model.
This is where those 2 videos above come from:
Found another piece of Venom concept art. Far more comic accurate and rather scary!

Was able to screencap a higher resolution image of the Venom animatronic rig from the Spider-Man 3 DVD.
‘Sam in particular had toiled with what Venom would look like as a character. The teeth and the tongue had always been a struggle for him, but to a certain degree he understood the importance of these design aspects- they were part of what made the character who he was.’
‘It was as if a disease was spreading across Eddie’s body, consuming his soul, and we had a front row seat. The suit was mangled, the spider emblem was mangled, and the webbing was mangled, just as the person inside the suit was emotionally mangled.’
The original ending from the film had Peter yank Eddie out of the Symbiote, but all that remained was a hunk of bones. This is because the Symbiote had completely drained Eddie of his life. The scene was actually filmed and Eddie's skeleton prop was made.
You can see how Eddie's skull was warped by the Symbiote, showing how intense the bonding process was. This scene was apparently cut and reshot due to test audiences finding it too dark.

Steve Johnson on why the #Venom animatronic bust was not used in #SpiderMan 3
Concept Artist Constantine Sekeris on his approach to designing #Venom:

‘We were exploring a practical suit design back then, keeping his simple classic look from the comics with an updated organic spider design on the chest.’

Concept Artist Constantine Sekeris on the reasoning behind the size of #Venom:

‘I did do other versions where he is bigger and muscular. Keep in mind this was to be worn over than actor as a practical foam suit, so the bigger it is the less movement the actor will have.’
More images, you can see the animatroincs within the costume and how they slapped the comic accurate logo on top of their original one.
Found another costume test for Venom. This one is similar to some of the others, however the eyes are a dark, metallic silver and Venom has no mouth. So purple!
A costume test for Venom. Look how fucking purple he could’ve been!
A sculpture for Venom. Definitely a more humanistic look. Very frightening!
Another sculpture of Venom. Very human in size but very lean. Nice to see them experimenting with the classic logo!
Eddie Brock statue. Nice fangs @TopherGrace
A very horrifying statue of Eddie turning into Venom.
Some more variations of Venom. Definitely not a fan of the smaller mouth.
Close ups of the prototype purple costume for Venom, with a human sized mouth and thinner spider emblem.
Another picture of the animatronic Venom, with Vulture's wing's (originally designed for Spider-Man 3) behind him. Both were deisgned by the now defunct Frontline Design
Picture of a Venom Concept Maquette, looks really nice and metallic. Whoever owns this is very lucky!
Picture of the @TopherGrace Venom Transformation Study.

Crazy to think about how many costume and make up tests went into the character.
Here’s a look at the Venom animatronic puppet in motion.
It was recently restored by someone who bought it.
Here’s a look at animatronic Venom’s hands in motion. Lots of articulation.

Would’ve been interesting to see how they would’ve incorporated the puppet into the fight scenes.
I’d imagine the puppet moved a lot faster when it was first built and it’s movements probably would’ve been digitally sped up to create a more viscous body language.
There also still exists another Venom animatronic that we’ve never seen designed by the legendary Steve Johnson (who also did Doc Ock’s tentacles from SM2). This should be showcased in one of his upcoming Rubberhead books https://twitter.com/twisted_twins/status/1010317089792331777?s=21
Check out this high quality video of the Venom animatronic in action
An excellent video of this guy who owns many Venom heads that were used in the development of the character for Spider-Man 3
