The girls in this university fly these planes.
They work with robots in this state-of-the-art lab. https://www.dropbox.com/s/dcibcrj3wja0xyt/IMG_7070.MOV?dl=0
They ride horses, learn art, do an MBA and study law. This is @Banasthali_Vidin Rajasthan, two hours from Jaipur. I was there yesterday talking to the MBA and Journalism Studies post graduate students.
Over 18,000 girls study at this university that started in 1935 in mud huts. The story goes like this.: when in 1927, Pt Hiralal Shastri, left his high profile job as Secretary in the Home & Foreign Dept to relocate to the remote village of Banathali for rural reconstruction..
People said he'd gone mad. In that remote place he found his 11 year old daughter Shanta Bai teaching village kids. She then wanted a room to teach them to protect them from storms and animals. Shastri said you make the bricks, I will build a room.
He forgot about it. Then three months later, Shanta took him and showed the 300 bricks she and the village kids had made. He was struck with her sense of purpose and decided to give her the best education. Music, martial arts.
But she suddenly died at 12. Shastri was devastated, did not come out of his room for days. His wife, who did not have a formal education, said: make that dream happen for all the other Shantas in India. And so was born Banasthali in mud huts. People said he's now gone fully mad
18,000 girls study here in one of the world's largest residential universities. Today, they keep the fees low but facilities very high quality. 700 horses, a state of the art robotics lab and much more. The famous alumnus include a fighter pilot.
What a privilege to have been invited to speak at this great institution. I spoke to the young women on money and how to take control of their future financial lives. Thanks to the dynamic @DrHarshPurohit for inviting me.
Also, must add that many of the students are @livemint readers and subscribers. Not just online, but physical paper gets there.
