1) It's fashionable to blame KPs for their plight. But truth is-KPs have done an immense amount of work to save their culture & it will be the height of injustice & ingratitude to refuse to recognise their contributions, not just before the Islamic coup in Kashmir, but later too.
2) It was a Kashmiri Hindu woman - Kota Rani - who endured patiently Islamist agonies to secure the interests of the people & give the Kashmiri Hindus a chance to secure the throne once more. It was Kashmiri Hindus who initiated the Rishi order to secure Hindu Kashmiri culture.
3) It was a visionary KP - Kantha Bhat - who first started a mass reconversion programme ~1500 to bring back Hindus who had become Muslims through compulsion (actual force or economic circumstance). He & his band of visionary Hindus were massacred by Shamsuddin Iraqi.
4) It was the KP, Birbal Dhar, who invited the Sikhs into the Kashmir Valley & helped them conquer Kashmir from the Afghans. It was the KP, Mirza Pandit, who helped Birbal Dhar flee from Kashmir to bring the Sikhs for deliverance of the Kashmir Valley.
5) It was the KP, Mahanand Dhar, who helped Raja Sukh Jiwan plan the immigration of Punjabi Hindus in the 1750s, to correct the demographic imbalance in the Kashmir Valley. And despite the hardship caused by the immigration to local KPs, they helped newcomers settle & blend in.
6) When the Pakistanis invaded Kashmir, even KP women armed themselves to resist the raiders. In the 1950s, when Shyama Prasad Mookerjee launched the movement to end special status for Kashmir. it was KPs who came out in droves, braving Abdullah's batons & bullets.
7) In the 1990s, when everyone had abandoned them & were left to face murderous hordes of armed Jihadis unarmed, they chose to give up everything they had & flee with little but the clothes on their backs, rather than convert to Islam & retain what they had in the Kashmir Valley.
8) It bears repetition that KPs have suffered immensely because they have been recalcitrant & resisting Islam. KP women were prime candidates for Islamist abductions, not only for their colour, but also because it was a great way to humiliate these recalcitrant people.
9) Now when people ask `What have the KPs done for themselves?', it makes me retch. To give everything they had, every hope, even homeland, for Dharma & then to be asked `what have they done' is probably the height of brazenness. But c'est la vie.

BTW, I doubt any of the KPs I mentioned above are even known much outside the KP circles. All the visionary KPs who gave everything they had & endured immense pain are forgotten. Kota Rani committed suicide. Birbal Dhar lost his family. Kantha Bhat was massacred. Patriotism sucks
