1 of my mothers coworkers daughters was kidnapped a few years ago. They searched for her for weeks. The last place she was seen was at the beach studying. It was around CXC time. She was getting ready for exams n ting. N her mother (let's call her Sally) told her not to go beach
When I tell you dem search for the girl. And Sally is a bad piece a bloodclaat ooman. All 4'4" of her.
Well one day they get a call from a friend of the father saying he was in hundred lane and that he found her.
She was strapped to the bed and had been gang raped. The men had it like an open house for men to just be coming in and out of the place. And who was in charge of it? The same people who kidnapped her-- some guys she grew up with. Sally knew their parents and everything
Sally's daughter had been taken the length and breath of Jamaica and the boys were making money from having 'open houses' like the one I just mentioned.
Well Sally's baby father is a bad piece a bloodclaat man tuh. They managed to get their daughter out of there, to start. I still get chills when I think about it because this was a 15 year old going through all of this. And this shit happens to women & girls all the time.
They never went to the police. Mom was getting weekly updates from Sally. Mom asked why they hadn't been to the police yet. Cuz this was like a week and a half after they had gotten their daughter back
Sally told mum not to worry about it because her baby father taking care of it
Over the years, the young boys who were responsible for kidnapping and pimping out his daughter, slowly went missing one by one.
As happy as I was to hear about that, I still think about her daughter everyday. Because although they got their own kind of justice, her daughter is forever going to be traumatized. It's something that makes me think twice, even three times, before going anywhere mum is wary of
Sally is someone who walks with a machete at all times (even before the incident). Not a knife. Not a shank. Not sumn small. She walks with a machete. She's approx. 4'4". And she keeps it on her person zn.
She says her daughter doing a lot better now. With time and just recouping. It took a lot. And her daughter is a twin. So her twin was having a hard time too. But I mean, all of this to say, we need to be armed. Always have a plan. Always thinking of ways to defend ourselves
My uncle is a taekwondo instructor so I mean, Sunday dinners would always turn into self defense classes some way or another.
But I mean, at all times, alwayssss be thinking of ways to defend yourself. In every situation. I know things can be different when you're actually in the situation. But that's also a part of the whole planning process. Conditioning your mind.
Walk with a shank. Or a machete. Or a knife. Or a scissors. Or just anything. Not just the women who take public transportation, because dem man ya nuh partial.
My mother ALWAYSSSS talks about knowing where major arteries are. Knowing where the jugular is. Knowing the right places to slice someone open in the event that I'll have to defend myself. It's stuff like that we need to always be thinking about
Gauging someone's eyes out. Calming down a rapist (while *trying* to remain calm) just enough to improvise and gauge his eyes or twist his scrotum or ANYTHING that can help you
My uncle wanted to get taekwondo in all of the high schools. Especially the girls schools while my cousin and I were going through school. Some of the complaints from principals? They thought it would be against the religious beliefs of the school. Or too aggressive
A girl was almost kidnapped outside of our school one time. Literally right by the front gate. They tried hauling her into their car. And that still wasn't a cry for self defense classes.
Ladies, like I said, travel armed. I know that if I'm going to a party where dem goe search me and weapons n ting not allowed, I travel wid sumn I can improvise with in the event that something happens. Call me paranoid if you want but idc. A suh mi raise. Prepared.
I also never travel in the front seat of a taxi. Because I always think about someone being in the back crouched down. I send the license plate number and even sometimes a picture of the car to LITERALLY ANYONE before I get in.
