it& #39;s very disillusioning for sex workers the first time we realise that very few powerful people or groups care about us, and certainly not us as individuals
even worse, people or groups who are SUPPOSED to care about everyone like social workers, police, your local MP - may give even less of a shit than the average, or actively want rid of you
final insult to injury - sex worker "organisations" are underfunded and disorganised a lot of the time, and behind the scenes are just tired sex workers with bags under their eyes
not a nice feeling at all. and goes some way to explaining why so many sex workers cling to this idea that groups like @swopusa or @SexWorkHive are powerful enough to replace all that missing support - they arent. they just do their best.
solidarity is amazing - & not every sex worker can put in what they& #39;d like to get out of the movement, which is fair. but always be mindful that when yr railing about the shortcomings of an activist org, yr talking about a v small group of real ppl
those people are often some of the most marginalised, making big sacrifices because they want justice for everyone.
if you want change & it& #39;s not happening fast enough, be the change you want to see! it& #39;s easier than you think to get started https://twitter.com/ProstitutesColl/status/933326143201206272">https://twitter.com/Prostitut...
