1. Thirdway started in the most random fashion. By a few friends who would meet for lunch quite often
2. First it was just random thoughts about how to have a movement of like minded professionals.
3. The aim was to create a critical mass of professionals who would positively contribute to the political and governance space in Kenya
4. As founders were were all from different backgrounds. But we believed that Kenyan professionals would be a solution
5. Thirdway was also NEVER EVER to be a political party. It was a platform to foster conversations across the political divide
6. We welcomed anyone from any party to the platform. But there was always the issue of how Thirdway would be registered
7. We also had forums in Taveta, Nairobi and Machakos to see how to bring many professionals as possible to get involved in national issues
8. Thirdway even had a weekly social media blast on a key topic affecting either national or county governments
9. All was good, thirdway had created a buzz at least online with very limited resources and a pool of committed professions
10. Honestly I believed that this was the best way to get professionals into public participation and perhaps seek elective positions
11. As the online presence grew, some founders and new members thought that Thirdway must be a political party
12. Of course I resisted the idea. From our research I knew this would disintegrate the core ideals of why Thirdway was started
13. However, one of the key issues about such movements is resource. The need for a secretariat and related shenanigans
14. Some founder had the economic muscle to pay for rent and some form of a secretariat
15. This emboldened said founder to start to dictate the Thirdway narrative
16. As such Thirdway was experiencing an economic and ideals capture. Three founders myself included left the Thirdway group
17. I made this public on social media just to ensure I was no longer associated with Thirdway
18. To our dismay, within record time, Thirdway was registered as a political party. You all know how hard it is to register these outfits
19. I can't speak about what happened in Thirdway after I left but I have a few lessons I learnt
20. One, there is nothing like a Thirdway that will exist in Kenya. At the moment either you are Jubilee or NASA or None
21. Two, when you come together to establish an outfit like Thirdway, just know there are those that will ruka your original plan
22. Three, those with economic muscle will in most cases control the narrative of the outfit. Kama hauna kakitu nyamaza
