Andrew, and those who have replied to his tweet, are a massive part of why there are so many #MeToo 's out there. https://twitter.com/jonrosenberg/status/921237163949244417
One of the big problems with men like this, is they have one very rigid idea of what constitutes rape. Anything outside that, isn't rape.
Their extreme is the male stranger who grabs a woman off the streets, holds them down as they fight back, and rapes them.
They don't believe a partner can truly rape you. They'll likely never admit it, but they believe if you consent once, you consent always.
They don't believe a guy can rape a drunk girl. Because if you're drinking with men present, you're clearly wanting a bit anyway.
They don't believe that being coerced or pressured into doing something you don't want to is rape. B/c every girl plays hard to get, right?
They don't believe that anyone who doesn't physically fight back was actually raped. Because if you don't fight it, you obviously want it.
They don't believe that it's rape when you consent to one thing, and he does another. Because "Yes" means "Yes to everything."
They don't believe that it's rape if you withdraw consent half way through & he continues. You already said yes, you can't change your mind.
They don't believe that it's rape if you've been fooling around but you say "No" to sex. Because you're just a teasing bitch.
They don't believe you were raped if you have a partner at the time. You just cheated and made up the rape claim so he wouldn't dump you.
There are literally hundreds of examples of clear rape I could give here, that guys like Andrew don't believe is actually rape.
If it wasn't a stranger, if you weren't beaten, if you didn't fight back, you weren't raped. That is their thinking.
Their one, very rigid idea of what constitutes rape is the only one they accept. And even then, everything about it is questioned.
What were you wearing? Why were you walking alone? Why didn't you protect yourself? Why didn't you immediately call the police?
Their one idea of rape also just happens to be the rarest kind. Something like 93% of rapes are committed by someone you know.
Partners, friends, acquaintances, colleagues, teachers, coaches, family members, pastors, etc. These are the perpetrators 93% of the time.
It's easy for Andrew to hint "If it's not reported within 24 hrs, it didn't really happen," because he refuses to see rape as rape.
He has no idea of the trauma, for one. And no idea of the complete shock that comes with being raped, especially by someone you know.
People like him don't believe victims when they come forward, because they don't believe 93% of rapes are actually rape.
And, sadly, there's a fair percentage of women who don't believe it either, because men like him have taught them that.
We see & hear it all the time. By police officers, by jurors, by judges, by media personalities, by men on every single news story on rape.
Society has come a long way, from the days where it was legal to rape your wife. At least that's a crime now, though one rarely prosecuted.
But with every tweet like Andrew's, I realise just how far we still have to go. Just how far we are away from people seeing rape as rape.
It's depressing, but I have to believe that we'll get there someday. I have to believe it for my niece, for my friends kids, for all kids.
Rape is rape. Every single rape, is rape. Not 7%. 100%. There isn't only one version that constitutes rape. There are 100's of millions.
People like Andrew are the reason there are so many #MeToo 's, b/c they don't believe what they do is rape, therefore they do it repeatedly.
Well, Andrew, I've got news for you.

It is.
