I don& #39;t like to talk personal things on my account too much because I don& #39;t trust the internet :) However, here is the thing I want to share
I was living in the US when Kpop boomed globally. At that time, I was fortunate to work as an amateur reporter for several places including
local website, K institution and media. I went several concerts and interviewed local Kpop fans. It was indeed a booming era but it wasn& #39;t
as sensational as K media said. It was surprising but clearly it was still a subculture, not for the major public& #39;s interest. During that
time, several K artists tried to make themselves in the US (not only music) but tbh, K media boasted bigger than it is and I became really
skeptical when it& #39;s about K artists achievement outside Korea after seeing these reports. After becoming an ARMY, I still am very careful
However, as the person who have first-hand experience of both sides(Pre BTS and now), I can confidently say that this is totally different.
That& #39;s why I& #39;m mad at K media. I always tell you guys that BTS is popular here and they really are. But media coverage is a different story
I really try hard to have and give possitive impression of K media so I rarely express my negative opinion about them here openly.
However their treatment toward BTS and Psy is just nonsense. I feel they don& #39;t even cover enough as much as they did for past Kpop artists-
(I don& #39;t really like the wording but) whose achievements are incomparable to what BTS have done. It& #39;s literally impossible and sensational.
That& #39;s why I ask you to help me on News Room interview project and support the original articles. Sadly there& #39;s no one who can give us-
a clear answer why they don& #39;t cover and hype this amazing achievement that no one made or even thought to make. Writing angry comment on my
translation or DM me "why Korea don& #39;t appreciate BTS?" is useless. They don& #39;t do it so we do it. As you "imported" BTS by your hand, help me
and K ARMYs to "re-import" our boys to Korea. I really appreciate your support and help whenever I express myself. Let& #39;s keep working hard!
Impression while covering pre BTS artists in the US was & #39;they are sheltered in a greenhouse called Kpop& #39;. However, BTS is bigger than Kpop.
Previously I mentioned the media treatment of Psy and BTS and I missed to write & #39;differently& #39;. They treated Psy like an national hero who
elevated Korean music/culture reputation. Of course Psy was already a celeb artist with great music. I& #39;m talking about when he gained global
popularity with Gangnam style. After him, BTS hit the world in a very unique way. They can cover various aspects yet media/major portal
merely expose even the fact. They became the world star which K media always wanted to have yet they almost seem to downsize the achievement
Politics exist everywhere. We can& #39;t deny it but also we can& #39;t keep questioning about it when it& #39;s already there. Accept it and we need to
find our way that& #39;s what ARMY been doing inside&outside of Korea, right? Positive thing is that more and more general public in Korea notice
BTS and feel ashamed that media don& #39;t cover enough. I heard many cases that K-ARMYs once casually liked or just knew BTS & when they found
out the treatment from media & antis, they tried to show a rational opinion about the boys and without a notice, they became a core fan.
These hardships make us stronger as a fandom that make us do things beyond what usually fans do. BTS goes beyond Kpop and
ARMYs also go beyond a fandom. I believe we also re-write what a fandom is and its role is. We& #39;re their supporter, pacemaker & gate opener.
