I don't "want the land back." That's not what decolonization means to me at all. Nobody owns the land. That is a ridiculous practise.
As a Blackfoot person, I don't want money. I'd rather there be no money at all actually.
I don't want things from white People. Nor do I want them to "go back to europe" nor do I agree that "they brought technology."
For one thing much of what was assimilated into "western civilization" is inherited wealth from other Peoples, mostly middle eastern.
From there, many individuals from many groups have added in to what technology is today.
We had plenty of medicines on this side of the world which enabled us as First Nations Peoples to thrive, for at least ~10,000 years.
That's aside from the point. I wouldn't live a more worthwhile life with modern technology. It's fine it's here, but it isn't necessary.
See, what I know of as "decolonization" is the call for white People to stop doing this:
This destruction of the world in the name of "progress" or "the free market" or whatever ridiculous destructive values you have is sick.
What I understand as "decolonization," is for "western civilization" to stop doing this:
I'd much rather white People stayed, but became symbiotic with the environment. WHat they've done is created a false reality. Bubbles
A system of incredibly wasteful climate controlled bubbles of non reality. House, Work, School, Mall, Building, after Building.
There is no connection to reality, no connection to the Planet, to the Universe, to the Plants & Animals. Ultimately disconnected to all
No, I don't want the land back, I don't want money either. What I want is for our only Home in the whole universe, to survive.
I'd rather know there is a thriving Planet for the next 10,000 years for Blackfoot People, all People to continue to live with.
Life is what is important. Not money, not land ownership, not your individual legacy. Life is what needs to continue into the future.
Unless we decolonize, this Planet may not continue. We may not have a chance at 10,000 years. At this rate, we may not even have 100.
Short term, nonsystemic, individualistic thinking People will make it about race, or class, or centre themselves in the conversation.
However; in the grand scheme of things, decolonization is beyond me or you or anyone alive now. Decolonization is about the future.
If they make it about race, they've already missed the point by a world. Nothing the west has done until now will help.
The world is at stake, & that problem is squarely on the shoulders of: "western civilization." That, is what we have to decolonize.
"It's not the physical boundaries of colonization that matter. It's the outposts they left in the mind that do."- Narcisse Blood
Ultimately, what I'm talking about is a way of being, and it's that way of being that needs to end for this Planet to survive.
Personally, the best place to start is beginning to connect to the Earth, the Sun, the Moon. The means by which all life exists
Warm your heart to them. Warm your thoughts. This world is not a bad place, & it's worth keeping. SO are you. So is every other person.
