Thread: Some of the improved transitional offense of Max Holloway was showcased vs Yair Rodriguez.
Holloway has always had an underrated clinch game, though he refined some of his methods to get there and some shot selections off wrist controls and frames.

Primarily, Holloway would pin Rodriguez to the fence and place his arm adjacent to Rodriguez's midsection while another arm could be used to move Yair for just enough space to knee his guts out.

If you've ever seen a Frankie Edgar fight, you would know Edgar loved to attack with this exact takedown, but he'd often use it for more transitional offense. Max here would make the former champion proud.

One reason Holloway is such a gifted volume threat is that he knows how to mix committed and non-committal strikes together. That is, he'll touch his way in with either and then surprise you with a much harder shot. When he can then convert strikes to holds/grabs? Scary.

Holloway is one of the greatest fighters MMA has ever seen and his offensive variety remains one of his most patented gifts. He isn't the same technician/ring general as Yan or the finisher as Oliveira, but he may well have the greatest depth of any swarming fighter in MMA.

The Rodriguez/Kattar improvements may not necessarily matter vs someone like Volkanovski (and vice versa for Volk's improvements vs Ortega/TKZ), but you'd be hard pressed to find a matchup between two fighters with more intrigue once these two meet eventually.
