Speaking of people who don't care about protecting children's lives. @CouncilmemberKJ, after years of delaying the project, has decided that Avenue will not be narrowed on his end of the street.
He will present this as a way of striking back against gentrification. Ensuring more Black and Brown children are killed and maimed seems like a poor way of striking back against gentrification to me, but apparently this is what passes for logic at City Council.
Guns and cars are what kills the vast majority of our children in America. These deaths are preventable. It is politicians like Kenyatta Johnson that ensure that car deaths remain as high as they are, because they lack the courage to tell people that these changes are worth it.
For months, Kenyatta Johnson has portrayed this as just needing more information, and @PhillyOTIS has unfortunately decided to cover for his dishonesty. It is now obvious that he did not need or want more information, and intended to block the plan the entire time.
Thousands of people invested time and energy in helping to decide Washington Ave's future. Every time, a vast majority of those responding said that they wanted the road made safer and narrowed. Exactly one man overturned all of this feedback and decided it stays dangerous.
