When I am raised on Judgment Day, and brought before the Court,
I hope my Lord will ask me if I’ve something to report.

“My Lord,” I’ll say, “I have forgiven all who did me wrong,
I cannot hold a grudge on those that cannot get along.
“However, Lord, there is a group I will hold to account.
A matter which to me is of importance paramount.
I will forgive the impolite, I will forgive the rude.
I will forgive the ones who in my business did intrude.

I will forgive the insolent, the vulgar, and the brash.
I will forgive the shortcomings of every fight and clash.
Forgive them all, my Lord, I have no interest in their deeds.
A weighty scale Today is what each man and woman needs.

There is a group though, Lord, I’ve not forgiven, I concede.
Today I seek their ḥasanāt, nothing outweighs my greed.
The slanderers and libelers, the ones of sū’ al-ẓann.
The ones who let me die, then ate my flesh all one by one.

You warned them to substantiate, else they’d be nādimīn.
And You instructed them to say ‘hādhā ifkun mubīn.’
But they ignored the sacred call of ‘kūnū qawwāmīn!’
For Justice, they could not with clear injustice intervene.

So I will not forgive those who were silent with the mob,
Except for those who showed remorse to me for mā aṣāb.
‘Yaʿiẓukum’ you stated, ‘an taʿūdū abadan.’
I patiently endured until this Day when none can run.

So now, my Lord, I beg Thee, for the pain that I’ve endured,
There surely must be recompense, reward that I’ve secured.
If You so wish, then grant me ḥasanāt of theirs that may
Allow my scales to tip and grant me Paradise Today.

And if Your Mercy overwhelms and You do not condemn,
Then Lord, I beg, forgive me too, if You’re to forgive them.”
