I'm angry.
I'm angry that 18 little bodies are probably still lying on the floor of their elementary school, destroyed by a gun that belongs in a war zone, not a community.

ALICE! ALICE! ALICE! This is not a drill!
Teachers huddle in locked rooms trying to keep their petrified students quite amid gunshots and screams.
Where's the student who went to the bathroom? I just sent a stu to the office. What should I tell the children?

I'm angry that an 18-y-o was legally able to buy a gun that could kill so many so quickly. The frontal cortex of an 18-y-o is not fully developed. It hasn't even been two weeks since another 18-y-o killed 10 people.

Grab the emergency bag and think about the training. Fight back. Escape with the students if that seems like a viable option. What should I do?

I'm angry that the rights of an 18-y-o to buy a weapon that can kill so many so quickly is a winning campaign message for Republicans in KY. Christmas pictures of the family holding guns! Deplorable.

I hear sirens. Please, please tell me that everyone is o.k. I count my students again. I text my colleagues to see what is going on. We know not to answer the door if someone knocks. It could be the gunman.

I'm angry that after the shooting in Marshall Co. KY, the school safety plan was mostly defensive:
keep classroom doors shut & locked
have an armed SRO in every building
train educators how to respond to an armed intruder

If the gunman comes in my room, I will protect the children. I think about the potential consequences and I text my own children and tell them that I love them.

I'm angry that there is not enough money for all of the mental health counselors we need. I'm furious that social-emotional learning has been vilified in a culture war against educators.
9/
9/
I think it is safe to bring the kids out now. I'm afraid of what they may see.

I'm angry that the only law regarding guns that has passed in KY since I was elected removed the requirement for training to carry a concealed weapon.
Not a single restriction on guns in response to our school shooting.
