I keep thinking of Politico's story about some well-known European leaders worrying about how to save Russia's face... After Bucha, after Mariupol... And how people call on Ukrainians to "stop spreading hate against Russians" as "not all Russians are bad". So here's a THREAD

That the world that wants to go into the future must stop dividing nations into less and more important, only focusing on the big players and completely ignoring smaller nations, blaming them for nationalism or being US puppets every time they do something a hegemon dislikes.

Ukraine was always considered "a Russian backyard", the nation that is "post-Soviet" and is clearly not so important. All the history about Ukraine was taken from USSR archives, clearly edited and controlled by KGB

Ukrainians were just not a nation, some Russian-speaking dudes did not need their own language, as the Russian language is more popular. Those Ukrainians were from a country that was corrupt but full of beautiful mail-order brides. and that was so convenient.

But then those Ukrainians suddenly decided it was enough to live under the shadow of Russia. They threw away a pro-Russian puppet, who ordered to kill 100 protesters, they showed the world that Ukraine is a country that contributes not only to world corruption inde but also...

to the world space industry, grain production, machinery, and music scene. We started cleaning our country from the corruption that infected our state like cancer during the Russian rule and Russian control that lasted for 22 years after independence.

We started embracing our own culture, history, and culture. because yes, before language law and even now most of people in Ukraine only start learning their country's language. Many people just did not care to learn Ukrainian, as Russian was more widespread, so what for.

And immediately we became anti-Russian, oppressors, Nazis, and nationalists. US puppets, who don't know what is best for them. Just because we are not a superpower. Now Finland is getting similar treatment. And unlike us, Finland is a very successful Nordic country.

My critics would say, but there are still other Russians. Those who are against Putin's regime. Currently, Mikhail Kats, a Russian liberal, becomes a new star of the good Russians. He indeed calls war a war, but he also says that Ukrainians have to work to change Russians

They kill us. But it is our duty not to switch to speaking Ukrainian now, as Russians don't understand our language. Kats also says that Kyiv will be part of the Russian world eventually, but the good Russia world, where we will all be friends cause there would be no Putin.

He, as many other Russian liberals, just did not care Ukrainians DON'T WANT TO BE A PART OF RUSSIAN WORLD. We don't see our future with those, who destroyed our cities of Kharkiv, Mariupol Kats calls "Russian cities".

So you see, our opinion does not matter to Russian liberals. We just have to..., have to save Russia's face, have to be a part of their world. Because without us, Tatars, Kazakhs, Georgian, and many others, Russia is not a mighty superpower, it is the Moscow Kingdom.

Fortunately, other Western countries understood us and supported us. Many of them used this situation for their own interests. So it is not the situation of "beggar Ukraine". If you think so, check who's now selling gas in Europe, and who's buying Russian businesses.

But it was we, Ukraine, Finland, or Sweden, who made the most important decisions. And by stripping us of our own authority, you support the oppressors, the superpowers, who dream only of making nations that are not that equal as their silent assimilated "brothers."

And we do not owe Russia any explanations, anything. We don't have to be "wiser" than Russian society. Russia, not us, destroyed its face. As instead of searching for russophobia and killing us, Russia could have opened Ukrainian schools in Russia, instead of burning our books

Russia could have spent its oil dollars not to purchase dozens of lavish yachts, but to develop regions, many of which don't even have proper utilities. That brings lots of shock and anger to "liberators" coming to Ukrainian villages and fining toilet bowls inside houses

But Russian liberals like Kats would say they do not decide anything in Russia. It just can't be changed, can't be done. But at the same time, they know perfectly how we should act and that we should yet again break ourselves to be kind to all Russians, we must be wiser.

You know what, we don't owe a thing to Russians, who say that "if you make us all look bad, you will have more and more people cheering for war". Or those, who say "if Russia loses the war, it will be humiliated and thus will soon return again". Call me a Russophobe?

Russians can't understand that our choice was not about them. It was about us. We didn't care what Russians wanted as we naively thought they have their own country to worry about. But no, Russians had to fuck everything up at home and them tell us how to live

Even now liberals like Katz ask why Russians bomb Russian cities,. don't even taking care of reading history of those cities. Just because now they are Russian-speaking. And many in the West also think Russia somehow owns Russian speakers and that allows not to care about borders

Russians say "it is our historical territories" and people like "sure yeah". But try telling Russia by that logic it has some territories to give back to Japan and China. Just try!).

when you say about "diplomacy", 'ceasefire" and "saving face", be honest, please. You want oil prices to go back down, you want not to hear about the Russian invasion, you want your life to come back to normal. You are tired of hearing about Ukraine. Cause why is it so special

You know what. I am also tired of being a victim. But that is what happens when a huge nuclear power decides our 'not important country" was wrong to dare to live independently.
