Habib Umar gave an extremely beautiful example. He said that a man was invited by a generous host to a meal but when he reached the gates, he saw that a dog was sitting close to the door. Every time he tried to enter, the dog chased him away and it fought with him
and caused him harm. The man did this over and over until he became hopeless and sat down broken hearted. Suddenly, he called out to the host whilst weeping and said, “You invited me to you and your banquet but this dog does not allow me to enter!” -
The host immediately removed the dog and the man was allowed to enter.
Allah is the Generous. He has invited us to His mercy and His banquet in Paradise. The dog is the devil/ego who is in the way. Quit spending your time trying to defeat him yourself because he is too strong.

Call out with tears and say, “O Generous One, I’m losing hope because I cannot escape or defeat this obstacle, so I ask You to remove him from my life so that I may gaze upon the beauty of Your Countenance and feel the purity of Your Love.”
Call upon Him with sincerity and watch your life change.
