So, today’s health update should have been my 17th Chemo session and the 4th on second line treatment. Unfortunately, I’m not receiving Chemo today. I’ve had to get a blood transfusion instead. My Chemo is delayed until next week.
I came in on Monday for my health assessment (lost 1lbs somehow🤷‍♂️) and we discussed my legs a lot. My legs over the weekend were really bad and I felt very weak. Struggled to walk really and was only managing penguin steps. They were a bit painful too
Nurses said that looking at me, I looked very pale and weak and they suspect I may be badly anaemic as this would affect my legs as the blood wouldn’t be getting to them as well as it should. Took bloods and said they’d call me as soon as the results were back.
Nurses were spot on, bloods showed I’m badly anaemic and needed a blood transfusion. So, Chemo is delayed a week and sitting here getting pumped full of blood.
Really hope this has been the issue as I was starting to look at electric wheelchairs as had a bad day Sunday when I couldn’t even manage to the park with the kids. Managed 20 yards and had to go back to car. 😭
Aside from my legs being bad, the last two weeks have been OK generally. Bowels have played up a few times where I just needed to stay in the house for a day at two different times but comes with the Chemo I’m on which is really tough on your gastro system.
Overall, I’d say this is a positive update. Had a bit of stomach pain at a different times but was linked to my bowels and again, managed it with painkillers. Just really need this blood transfusion to give me a boost and hopefully help my legs. Will give another update next week
