Ways to open a Speech...

• A QUESTION:

What would you do if you come up the stage for a presentation and your audience are distracted by their phone or side talks?
Ask a question!
When a question is being asked, the next thing that happens is that your listeners
start thinking actively. You could even add a price tag to your question if necessary. You have successfully captured their attention. It's important that you ask a question that persons will likely not know the answer to as it will keep their minds engaged. Let your question fit
the audience you are talking to.

eg. You could ask the meaning of a particular Greek or Latin word if you are talking to law students. You could also ask when did America invade Venzuela if you are talking to History students.
Just make sure ask a question that makes sense and
can get them thinking! If no one has an answer, you continue your talk because they are already hooked because they are wondering "what's he gonna say next? I better listen"!
