Chatting with Boomer Dad about the war, topic of Iraq inevitably comes up—he now claims he "never supported it"—but I vividly remember having arguments with him about it as a kid (he was for it)

Normies who complied with COVID hysteria will do this in 5 to 10 years.
You will see people who made excuses for being scared, diligently wearing masks, etc go on to deny that they ever did it later in life.

You will even see people claim that they never took the shot. I would bet money on it.
Ironically, as an Extremely Online schizo, my trajectory was the opposite—I was reading /cvg/ in January before any normies had even heard of COVID, thinking it might be serious. Then the Diamond Princess happened and I snapped out of it. https://twitter.com/TrashmanAnime/status/1506310718076821512
In 2003, over 70% of Americans supported the Iraq War. But in 2018, only 32% would admit to having supported it in 2003. That leaves a lot of people who are either deluding themselves or just lying.
School is arguably *designed* to instill and reinforce this exact pattern of simply "going with the flow"

And this is why people should not worry so much about "winning arguments" or "convincing the normies"—it is literally just about asserting narrative. https://twitter.com/BlondRengarPaul/status/1506317048619667460
I love my dad—he is just part of the mass of people who are not very good at doing their own thinking—that's not anybody's fault and you can't blame most people for it. They genuinely cannot help it.

The evil freaks who manipulate normies are to blame. https://twitter.com/PhilipMason5/status/1506321765752094729
Similar thing going on here. A lot of these people would tell you they were "always for it"—they were only against it because social convention pointed them that way, and they're only in favor now for the same reason.

Either way they couldn't explain why. https://twitter.com/ProfessorGeniu5/status/1506320534610587655
It's really not—subtext in both cases is "we must take drastic, exceptional action in order to address a threat to our national security." The particulars are different, but the mechanism of the propaganda is basically the same. https://twitter.com/DainFitzgerald/status/1506326717404696580?t=-sG7GydVEbakOhxdV4_djg&s=19
2003: "If we don't invade Iraq, Saddam will mail anthrax to your child's kindergarten."

2020: "If we don't hide in our homes, wear masks, and destroy the economy, you will catch a cold and die on a ventilator."
