Since it is International Women's Day I am going to recommend some manga written by female authors!👩‍🎨
1. Cardcaptor Sakura - CLAMP (50 ch)

I grew up watching Sakura and I can say for certain that this is one of the stories that shaped my taste as it is.

With an immaculate aesthetic and an innocent appearance, Sakura is a heartfelt and endearing story about love and compassion.
2. Captivated by you - Wayama Yama (8 ch)

An hilarious manga about high school students and their eccentric interactions.
3. BL Metamorphosis - Tsurutani Kaori (51 ch)

Having the relationship between Urara (17yo) and Ichinoi-san (75yo) as the core of the story, this manga depicts how the different generations can learn from one another and share a passion even if their realities are poles appart.
4. Run away with me, girl - Battan (16 ch)

An adult romance between two women that explores the importance of following the path that will make you the happiest even if it won't be the easiest or socially accepted.

It tackles delicate topics like domestic abuse.
5. Skip Beat! - Nakamura Yoshiki (303 ch~)

My longevous relationship with a manga (8 years) and somehow I still feel as excited every time a chapters drops as when I caught up.

It follows Kyoko in her enterprise to become a famous actress while overcoming her past scars.
6. Skip to Loafer - Takamatsu Misaki (39 ch~)

Tied with Blue Period for my fav ongoing, Skip to Loafer is a coming of age that never fails to make me smile. One of the healthiest manga I've read.

It shows the importance of communication and acceptance (even of one's own flaws).
7. Will you marry me again if you are reborn? - Morinaga Miku (22 ch)

Behind the promised story of gentle memories that is this manga, lurk the crude episodes of loss and war that they had to endure to reach their well-deserved happy ending.
8. A Sign of Affection - Morishita Suu (24~)

A fluffy and tender college romance between a guy that has travelling as his passion and a deaf energetic girl eager to let her horizons be widened.
9. My lesbian experience with loneliness - Nagata Kabi (6 ch)

An autobiographical journey through Nagata-sensei's struggles with depression, eating disorders and her lack of adaptability to the adult's life.
10. Blank Canvas - Higashimura Akiko (34 ch)

Another autobiographical manga, but this time it focuses on how Higashimura-sensei became a mangaka.

A touching story full of passion and heart.
11. InuYasha - Takahashi Rumiko (559 ch)

Another one of the responsibles for shaping my childhood and current taste. Even know I keep going back to this story. I don't think I will ever get tired of it.

A modern classic isekai.

(I recommend its adaptation as well).
12. Akatsuki no Yona - Kusanagi Mizuho (221 ch~)

An adventure story that starts with the loss of Yona's innocence will follow her through her inspirational journey to become a wiser and more mature person that will be able to support her country.
13. Follow the Clouds to the North-Northwest - Irie Aki (paused uploads, 13 chapters can be found)

A breathtaking trip to Iceland that knows how to exploit to the fullest its setting to combine slice of life episodic stories with an underlying thriller.
14. Blue Period - Yamaguchi Tsubasa (50 ch~)

A coming of age focused on the struggles that entails following your passion.

The most accurate depiction of the college period I have seen in any media.
15. Ichika, Bachika - Shikke (6 ch)

A lovely manga about the discovery and acceptance of one's own sexuality.

(It has explicit scenes).
16. Kowloon Generic Romance - Mayuzuki Jun (54 ch~)

An apparent funny and endearing adult romance that starts to crumble when reminiscences of a distant past come to haunt the protagonist.

A confusing downward spiral of memories that threatens to destroy their peaceful life.
17. Shiro Usazaki

Even if Act-Age was cancelled, go support her. Her art is fantastic and she deserves more chances to draw manga. https://twitter.com/uszksr
18. Umineko no Naku Koro Ni (ep 1, 3, 8) - Natsumi Kei

I recommend to read the VN before reading the manga since it's not really a good substitute, but I want to highlight my favourite artist among the ones that drew the adaptation of Umineko.

Natsumi's art is stunning.
19. Kieta Hatsukoi - Aruko (24~)

From one artist to another, Aruko is responsible for the art of Kieta Hatsukoi, another coming of age that tackles among other topics sexuality.

What starts with a misunderstanding will soon become the beginning of a love story.
20. D.Gray-man - Hoshino Katsura (243 ch~)

I feel an utmost respect for Hoshino-sensei, who despite suffering from an illness keeps trying to finish her work.

To this day, DGM remains one of the most ambitious manga I had the pleasure to read.
21. Uruwashi no Yoi no Tsuki - Yamamori Mika (15~)

A high school romance between two popular students that will come to understand what love is together.

(I recommend Tsubaki-chou Lonely Planet as well from the same author).
22. Kimi ni Todoke - Shiina Karuho (112 ch)

Loveliest, cutest, sweetest and most endearing romance manga ever made.

My comfort media. I love everything about it.
23. My Broken Mariko - Hirako Waka (5 ch)

Emotional dependency, depression and loneliness are some of the themes that My Broken Mariko portrays through Shiino, its portagonist, who has to learn to live on even after her best friend's death.
24. Utsubora - Nakamura Asumiko (14 ch)

The death of a young woman uncovers the disturbing truth behind her, a novelist and another girl that claims to be her sister.

A sensual and disconcerting psychological thriller that shows a pretty dark side of human's desires.
25. Houseki no Kuni - The Works of Ichikawa Haruko (8 ch~)

Two volumes of short stories that display themes and ideas that will be later depicted and explored in more depth in Houseki no Kuni.

A must read for Ichikawa's fans.
26. 3-gatsu no Lion - Umino Chica (189~)

Soothing yet heart-wrenching, 3-gatsu is a truly inspiring story of self-improvement and self-discovery. Not only because of Rei, but also because of Chica, a relentless woman that like Hoshino never gave up on manga despite her health.
27. To You, the Immortal - Ooima Yoshitoki

An ode to life.

Through Fushi, an immortal being, Ooima gives her own answer to some of the most recurring questions throughout the ages like humanity, the concept of self and death as an unavoidable but necessary force.
28. Given - Kizu Natsuki (44 ch~)

Trauma, toxicity, emotional dependency. Given deals with all these topics and tells a story about striving to reach happiness. Because even if now you can't see the light, there will be a time when you will if you don't give up on yourself.
29. Code:Breaker - Kamijo Akimine (230 ch)

This is probably my most personal recommendation, although I am not even sure if it is one, but I wanted to highlight it.

Code:Breaker was my first manga and the reason why I started getting into the medium.

It will always be special.
30. Katekyo Hitman REBORN! - Amano Akira (409 ch)

KHR was another of my first animanga. I even watched it on youtube.

I don't really know how it will hold now, but I have nothing but fond memories of it.

Amano is also the character designer for Psycho-Pass. Forever grateful❤️
31. They Were Eleven! (and sequel) - Hagio Moto (7 ch)

A reminder that I have to continue reading old shojo.

While knowing how to create the perfect atmosphere to be tense, it was also a really fun ride.

A great sci-fi that doesn't feel outdated at all even after 46 years.
32. Furare Girl - Tsutsumi Kakeru (33 ch~)

A bit bawdier than usual yet still somehow pure, Furare Girl is a daring and refreshing high school romance.
33. Koiwazurai no Ellie - Fuji Momo (46.2 ch)

Talking about daring shojo manga, this story follows Ellie a quite perverted girl that has lecherous fantasies with her classmate Omi.

The opportunity of her fantasies becoming real will come when they discover each other's secret.
34. Kasane - Matsuura Daruma (126 ch)

A dishearting story about a girl that had her life and psyche crushed under the pressure of social acceptance, imposed standards of beauty and her own prejudices towards herself.
35. Sayonara Sorcier - Hozumi (12 ch)

Some works awake the desire in you to tell someone you love them and this is one of them. After finishing it I just wanted to call my sister and repeat that as many times as possible.

An affectionate letter from Theodorus to his brother.
36. My Righteous Older Brother - Morie Satoshi (17 ch)

Since I only posted healthy romance until now, this is a mystery series that focuses in the odd relationship between a girl that awaits for her brother to come back home and a guy that suffers from sleep deprivation.
37. Witch Hat Atelier - Shirahama Kamome (55 ch~)

If I am honest, I am guilty of not having caught up yet even if I own all the volumes, but I wanted to encourage people to read it anyway since it has one of my favourite magic systems and art.
38. Otoyomegatari - Mori Kaoru (101 ch~)

Otoyomegatari focuses on couples from Central Asia in the mid-19th century, which implies a culture shock between the reader and their traditions, but Mori-sensei portrays it so elegantly that you can't help but get enraptured by it.
39. Children of the Whales - Umeda Abi (76 ~)

I first heard of this story when the anime started airing and immediately fell in love with it. It advocates for the importance of emotions, how they are the key to have a fulfilling life even if they entail pain as well.
40. CLAMP works

Although this might be cheating, CLAMP are my favourite mangaka, so I wanted to recommend other works from them:
- Tokyo Babylon/X
- Clover
- RG Veda
- xxxHolic/Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles
Feel free to recommend stuff here if you think there is stuff that everyone should read!

Hope you all enjoy some of this manga if you ever get around to read them😊
