The event is honoring scientists that played significant roles, including the development of covid vaccines. Meanwhile, I heard about the building purchase by Dr Barke during a board meeting where he also shared info to parents on why he doesn’t recommend covid vaccines for kids.
Freeman & Zhang founded OC Music & Dance. Dr Jeff Barke mentioned in the OCCA board mtg that this purchase may involve a relationship between OCMD & OCCA. When I searched for info on OCMD, I found an OCBE meeting with OCMD & another OCBE charter - Irvine International Academy https://twitter.com/krausthelee/status/1489749479402061827
The last OCBE mtg, where OCCA’s countywide charter was approved, parents from Irvine International Academy spoke w/ concerns. Including covid disinformation by founder and money from a grant given to the school used to buy instruments for an after school parent paid program- OCMD
So, the brand new Irvine International Academy charter received a $50k grant from Larry & Helen Hoag Foundation. The letter stated funds could be used for a variety of expenses. But per parents, $26k went to instruments only used by students who pay extra for the OCMD program
Per parents, unless your child pays for that after school program they don’t have access to the $26,000 instruments.

Back to original comment, maybe these are philanthropists who didn’t research before buying a $9M building. Maybe they just want to spread the love of art to all OC kids who can pay the fees. As for the founder of IIA, Dr Scott, has a troublesome charter history with a closure due to “discrepancies found in bookkeeping”. Dr Scott & his wife were urged to stepdown due to “alleged unprofessional leadership”.

If you read that above article about Dr Scott’s previously failed charter school that OCBE wasn’t concerned about when handing over more public funds to him, it mentioned Dr Scott had an “Los Angeles philanthropist” willing to loan him money.

Douglas Freeman is also Pres of the Ernst & Irma Rose Foundation. Recent expenses show $1500 to Lincoln Club (a common amount seen with members, leaving many to assume yearly dues) and $135k to OCMD.

Last night’s Irvine International Academy board mtg, only 30 mins of comments & staff picked who spoke. Per survey 75% oppose Dr Scott’s leadership, though the majority of comments supported him. Upset parents changed their screen names to support more time for teachers to speak:
At the end of the meeting the Principal of Irvine International Academy made a statement. He accused Dr Scott and the board chairman, Doug Husen, of bullying and claimed during closed session Scott texted Husen to fire the Principal. Embarrassingly, Scott texted a group chat.
Why do I keep posting about this OCBE charter school? Bec people need to understand that the story being sold to you by people like @maribarke is bullshit. Charter schools aren’t a magic solution to all problems.
