a bit late but i'm starting my own software advent calendar 📆🎉 it'll contain various tools i love to use and i wanted to know more about 👀

everything will also be posted here

22.01.03: @graphcommons is a powerful online graphing tool.
(while you can find its source code on github, they developed a pricing model: the free option already gives plenty of room to play around)
I use it mainly for to investigate and understand complex relationship 1/3
... structures between " t h i n g s " (people, institutions, documents, ...). I guess you could also use it for structure mind-mapping, and try to de·organize everything that's on your mind.

There is also kind of a 🫂 "community" feature allowing you to find obscure graphs 2/4
The relationship between Jeffr*y Epst*in and various public figures🤐 the role of Goldman Sachs in the Tr*mp Network 👮 Tear Gas Manufacturers or even an ambiguous investigation of the Paris Batclan attack are some fascinating pieces you can find on the GraphCommons feed ! 3/4
As I'm writing my master thesis @erg_be, 🌱 the rhizomatic visualisation of all the themes and things I want to include is crucial ! But be careful, it's way too easy to find meaning everywhere 🤯

⚠️ OF COURSE: if anyone here knows a self hosted alternative, something maybe closer to programming, command line interface and such... please hit me up🙏
22.01.04: F-Droid @fdroidorg is an alternative software repository for Android. It's supposed to host only free libre and open source software. It was built in 2010 by Ciaran Gultnieks, who is responsible for a space flight game with a sexy name:
"Hardwar: The Future is Greedy"
i wanted to introduce this alternative to 👿 G*ogle Pl*y as some tools I'll be showcasing soon can be installed from @fdroidorg
It'll also display a notice about privacy concerns, trackers, or non-free code libraries if they include some (such as the @telegram client)
FIGlet is a program for making large letters out of ordinary text. 🔡 💻

Originally named "newban", this tool was first developed in 1991 by Glenn Chappell, inspired by the electronic signature of his friend Frank Sheeran, he was later joined by Ian Chai. (1/15)
Hence the acronym FIG for 👪 Frank, Ian and Glenn letters !

It has been used to create art in various community spaces on the web such as .nfo files, email signatures, banners, websites and much more 🎨 (2/15)
I discovered this cute tool when I started using my Mac OS command line interface (Terminal .app) and never stopped using it since then.

And YES ! I actually did the title of my calendar with FIGlet, thanks for noticing 🤗

(3/15)
How sad that on our current social networks, pre-formatted text isn't even an option no more: imagine how cute if I could have added some cutsie ASCII art and FIGlet font to this tweet ? But it doesn't work any more... at least not here, (4/15)
look at this monstrosity 👹 (5/13)

Go to their website http://figlet.org  if you want of copy of the program, but chances are if you run and UNIX operating system that FIGlet is already installed.

(if u want a rush of Internet nostalgia, Id suggest you visit http://www.plig.net  the site hosting FIGlet)
You might also want to have a look into 🚽 TOIlet, an alternative to FIGlet with colouring options, gradients and frames, just with a shittier name.
