Managing your "personal brand" is taking control of your own narrative.

5 questions to ask yourself as you own your story in 2022...
1/ Why: What goal are you trying to accomplish?

The more focused you are, the better.

At the beginning of 2021, my goal was to never have to do a traditional job hunt again.
Note: Don't confuse goals with KPIs.

• Goal: The outcome you aim to achieve.

• KPI: A measure of progress towards that goal.
2/ Who: What type of people are you hoping to attract?

Be specific.

My aim has been to attract people who want to better understand how content fits into marketing strategy.
3/ What: What 1-3 topics align with your expertise or identity?

This gives you guardrails without boxing you into a single subject.

Here are my topics → my credibility:

• Marketing → 9 years experience
• Content → Writer/creator
• Food → Trained chef
4/ How: In what style will you convey your messages?

Let your core values shine through.

One of my values is inclusiveness. I try to:

• Make sure what I say is accessible to people at all levels.
• Be welcoming of everyone on my timeline.
5/ If you think a personal brand is icky, why?

1st guess: You hate the term.

Call it something else. Reputation management, maybe.

2nd guess: It's embarrassing to admit that you care what others think of you.

Don't manage your personal brand for them. Do it for yourself.
A framework for your personal brand:

• Why: Define a goal
• Who: Create for people you want to attract
• What: Choose 1-3 topics
• How: Let your values shine
• Consider: Why is it icky to you?
