lan wangji had a strange feeling of unsettlement. it had been going on for days and he couldn’t put his finger on it. https://twitter.com/flouury/status/1445907653595598848
he can’t deny that the jiang family brunch had something to do with it. after the disastrous meal (which was quite typical, lan wangji could admit), there had been something off.
slipping out of the bed quietly, as to not wake his husband, lan wangji got ready to go on his morning run.
heading to the kitchen he made coffee (for when his husband eventually woke up despite lan wangji inviting him on a morning run), a smoothie for when he finished, and cut fruit for the both of them.
what could have caused this? what changed so dramatically that something felt missing? lan wangji asked himself these questions, wracking his brain for the answers

nothing. there is nothing that he could come up with. letting out a small sigh, he goes back to the room and grabs his running clothes.
toeing on his shoes, he leaves the house.
-
running down the paths of a nearby park, lan wangji can’t stop his brain from going back to that brunch.
there was something that day that shifted, something off that he couldn't put his finger on. to be honest, he is sure it has something to do with his brother.

lan wangji hasn't heard from him in a while. he would text his brother occasionally but there was only short
responses back. and they always came in hours after the initial text. though this could just be an increase in workload, jiang cheng would always let him know so lan wangji could stop in and let lan xichen take a needed break.
now thinking about it, he hasn't heard from his brother-in-law in a couple days... maybe more the harder he thinks. after his run, he'll stop by their apartment.

the run had been nice, the cold air had been refreshing to lan wangji as it always was so early in the morning. he had gone back to his house after he did the circle around the park and started to get ready.
he showered and changed into his normal button down and pants before going to the kitchen and drinking his smoothie.

scrolling through his email as he usually did in the morning, felt off. everything felt off for lan wangji. going to see his brother-in-law was already on the
agenda for today
maybe he should go after to look for his brother at work to talk about how he felt?

making up his mind, he put in his shoes, called out to his husband (he got a snore in response. he left a text just in case he wasn’t back before noon, wei wuxian’s normal
waking time). lan wangji drove the familiar path to jiang wanyin’s and his brother’s apartment, parking in the unusually empty parking spot reserved for the couple.
he could see his brothers or jiang wanyin’s car. it was odd. well, his brother went to work around this time anyway, lan wangji reasoned but jiang wanyin stayed home most of the time. it made him feel uneasy to see he didn’t seem to be here
so early in the morning.

nodding his head to the doorman as he walked into the complex, he was allowed access to the elevators down the back hallway.
he texted jiang wanyin to let him know he was coming up and patiently waited for the elevator come down. when he didn’t get an answer a minute later it only added more to his unease.
jiang wanting usually texted back seconds to minutes later. he was punctual, which was something that lan wangji appreciated about him. it concerned him that he wasn’t answering.
exiting the elevator, he walked down the tastefully carpeted hallway towards their door and rang the doorbell. he waited a few seconds, listening for someone walking to get the door but it never came.
he rang again.

still nothing. lan wangji’s brows furrowed in worry. why wasn’t jiang wanyin answering the door? was he still sleeping? but even then, he should’ve at least heard the doorbell.
lan wangji made a decision. pulling his keys from his back pocket, he got the extra key that his brother had given him (with jiang wanyin’s consent, of course) and quickly opened the door.
something was terribly wrong.
The home didn’t look lived in, was the first thing that Lan Wangji thought. It was devoid of anything that could signify that Jiang Wanyin lived there or even Xichen for that matter. The pictures Jiang Wanyin had proudly hung on the wall of the whole Jiang-Lan family were gone,
his throw pillows and blankets that he always had on the couch weren’t there and the plants that Jiang Wanyin treated like his children—not to be seen.
There was a layer of dust covering all the surfaces, Lan Wangji noticed as he walked through the apartment. A thin layer that would never be there if Jiang Wanyin allowed it, he liked to keep his spaces clean.
The house seemed bleak, a kind of depressing air that shrouded the house. Lan Wangji was no longer worried, he was scared.
He turned on the lights and further observed the scene of this empty place. He was taking it all in when something caught his eye. There was on the dining room table, a folder and what looked like three envelopes.
Lan Wangji was usually against being nosy, but he ignored his rule for this. As he walked cautiously towards the table, he could see what was writing on the envelopes.
Yanli, Wei Ying, A-Ling.
//ive moved from just writing it on two and am writing before and then transferring it here. the grammar and spelling will be better now 😎
