I studied Nazi cinema in great depth at uni and yeah, the most successful Nazi propaganda films weren't the overtly militaristic or heavy handed ones you probably think of, but the scores of 'cosy' traditionalist/conformist feel good films about family and fitting in. https://twitter.com/Bill_Kezos_/status/1415810153757036546
Yeah you had the blatant stuff like Hitlerjunge Quex and Jud Süß but there was far more like Quax der Bruchpilot, an almost Ealing comedy-esque affair where the titular character, a layabout and clown, finds meaning and purpose in learning to fly, starting a family, settling down
We're very good at thinking we know what fascism looks like but if it were solely militarism and force it would never have been do successful. For the in group it targeted it was wholesome, moral, disciplined, soft, outright comfortable. For the in group. And that's what we miss.
Incidentally the Nazis weren't the only ones to disguise the bulk of their propaganda by making some overt pieces that you would recognise to distract you from the themes behind the other 'friendly, apolitical' stuff - especially if you're considered the in group it welcomes.
