This is a very rational, calm, evidence-based article by @DLeonhardt on thinking about kids, risk, delta variant, "long covid"...

Some key sections (from my view) in this thread:

1/n https://www.nytimes.com/2021/06/18/briefing/kids-covid-and-delta.html
Many concerned about "long covid" yet accept/haven't thought about/don't adjust their life around "long flu", but 👇
. @DLeonhardt also points out something I've written about going back to last fall - the risks to kids from Covid are less than many other risks.

For example, the risk of suicide is 10x higher than risk of death from covid https://twitter.com/j_g_allen/status/1390983376220327940?s=20
And risk from covid in kids is 10x lower risk than vehicle accidents
Big picture: "This evidence suggests that serious versions of Covid will continue to be extremely rare in children."

How rare? 👇
As for the delta variant and kids, I agree with @JenniferNuzzo:

"I haven’t seen data to make me particularly worried about Delta in kids”
I get the anxiety - I'm a parent of 3 kids - but the evidence continues to show that kids are very low risk.

@michaelmina_lab and I wrote about this 2 weeks ago, linking to an OUTSTANDING essay by @dylanhmorris (guest contributor to @zeynep substack)
https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2021/06/01/covid-19-cases-will-likely-rise-again-fall-heres-how-keep-schools-open/
I'll repeat what I started with - this article by @DLeonhardt really is a calm, rational take on kids and risk - something that is sorely missing in exchanges on twitter and elsewhere. I highly recommend giving it a read.
