We took AppSumo from 0 to $85 million in sales.

Here are 10 lessons from our CEO Ayman that'll save you years of mistakes👇
Treat business books like prescription drugs.

When you have a cold, take cold medicine.

When you need to improve at hiring, read a book on hiring.

Read business books to solve specific problems.
A business will only grow to the limits of its leader's psychology.
A CEO's core jobs:

• Strategy
• Executing
• Psychology
• Cash management
• Get the right people
How to determine your strategy:

What can we be the best in the world at?

Then work backwards.
3 stages of a company:

Startup → $0-1M
Grow up → $1-100M
Scale up → $100M to $1B

Usually, this requires 3 different CEOs.
A framework to evaluate your business:

T3s and B3s

• Top 3 during the week
• Bottom 3 during the week
Framework for hiring:

It's a HELL yes or a No.
The best CEOs are T-shaped.

Know something about everything.

But be an expert in 1 area.
Structure your week to focus on 1 area each day.

Monday: Recruiting
Tuesday: Execution
Wednesday: Strategy
Thursday: Finance
Friday: Psychology

This avoids context switching.
"If you want to move mountains tomorrow, pick up stones today."

• The goal is the mountain
• The stones are the actions you take

Actions:

• What do I need to do in the next 3 years?

• What do I need in the next 3 months?

• What do I need to do in the next 3 hours?
@BrokerChange grew @Appsumo from $4M to $85M in sales.

And he’s sticking around too.
