#xicheng | Modern AU | Clinic

He didn't remember the accident. He wasn't even entirely sure how it had happened; the crack of crumpling metal, the rumble of breaking glass, the screech of tires still rang in his ears. He could still smell the stench of burning rubber. https://twitter.com/Clanaa1/status/1400754772135714816
That day they decided to go out of town. They were tired of working, tired of the constant pursuit of something better, tired of his father's insistence that they climb the career ladder on their own.

Tired of Wen Chao, who kept trying to prove to them that they were inferior.
It must have been at one of the business meetings. Maybe right after? When Wei Wuxian finally said one word too many and upset the shithead. The limits of his patience had been exceeded. And his sadistic nature kicked in.

He didn't know that.
Only later, when he was aware enough to testify, did he learn that Wen Chao was involved in the accident. That he had caused it.

He had no idea how they managed to survive.

Wei Wuxian was already home and feeling better, but he wasn't wanted to be released from the clinic.
"Why do you keep coming here?" asked Jiang Cheng quietly.

Lan Xichen looked at him somewhat uncertainly. He knew that the man was feeling unwell, that he was withdrawing from life, and that was one of the reasons they were still keeping him in the hospital.

"For you, dearest."
"You shouldn't," replied Jiang Cheng bitterly, looking out the window, wondering if he would ever get back to his old fitness again.

He didn't believe that he still had a chance to live a normal life. He had missed out on so much, and now he faced a lengthy rehabilitation if he
wanted to start functioning in society again.

Lan Huan shouldn't continue wasting his life on him.

The older man walked calmly over to his bed, at which he then knelt down and took Jiang Cheng's hand carefully, forcing him to look at him.
"Don't try to sacrifice yourself for me, thinking that's what I want," Lan Xichen said, looking directly into his bright eyes. "Because that's not what I want. I want to be with you. To learn all over again with you."

"A-Huan..."

"I want to stay with you forever."
These were heavy words, but Jiang Wanyin knew he couldn't run away from them. He wished that Lan Xichen would stay with him, that he wouldn't leave, but at the same time he didn't want to burden him with himself, his problems, his now poor health.

"A-Huan" he tried again.
"Be with me, don't be affraid, as long you want to take one step forward, I'll walk the remaining distance between us."

Jiang Cheng clenched his teeth on his lower lip as Lan Xichen placed a gentle kiss on his trembling hand.

"This is going to be tough," Jiang Wanyin whispered.
"I know, but when we got married, I promised you that I would always be with you, whatever happens. And I will," Lan Huan replied just as quietly, kissing his hand again, on which was a wedding ring that had been somewhat damaged in the accident.
