10 lessons I have learned working 5 years in marketing as a tech startup founder. https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="🧵" title="Thread" aria-label="Emoji: Thread">
Start building an audience before you even think of building a product.

You don& #39;t need to quit your job for this. You can build audience on the side.
- Publish blogs.
- Start a newsletter.
- Write on social media.

Successful launch requires months of preparation.

Launch days are also very stressful. Prepare a thorough plan & timeline beforehand so that you don& #39;t have to think about what to do & when on actual day of launch.

(2/10)
Launch on multiple channels, don& #39;t depend on only one.

Example:
- Product Hunt, LinkedIn → Product + Story
- Reddit, HackerNews → Product + "How I built it"
- DEV, IndieHackers → "How I built it" + Support on PH
- Twitter → Behind-the-scenes of launch + Product

(3/10)
Launch day is great to give you initial boost. But your launch strategy needs to be more than that.

You should have ideally mapped your product& #39;s entire trajectory after launch day:
- features & markets you& #39;ll focus on
- channels to acquire customers
- future launches

(4/10)
SEO gives you consistent & reliable traffic.

Focus on SEO from day 1. Don& #39;t wait for your product to be built before you start working on SEO.

(5/10)
SEO takes time to show results, typically 3-6 months at least.

But your traffic grows exponentially once you get initial traction.

(6/10)
SEO is a long-term strategy.

Make sure you set up the right processes to research, write & distribute content.

(7/10)
Distribution is everything.

No matter how great your product is, with poor distribution it is worth nothing.

(8/10)
Try multiple distribution channels and build a distribution engine.

Without solid processes & consistent efforts, your efforts on distribution will yield no results.

(9/10)
Social media & community websites are key to building a loyal audience & real connections.

Focus on sharing personal experiences & stories vs. company or product updates.

People connect with people, not with lifeless entities or brands.
