I’m beginning to think people crying “it’s okay to criticize Israel but don’t be antisemitic about it!!!” completely without prompting or any hint of antisemitism is......a weird form of detailing the conversation??
Like sure, people can be grossly antisemitic when criticizing Israel - and that’s not okay and bigoted and should be called out
But if someone had a legitimate criticism of Israel and your first response is “okay but don’t be antisemitic about it!!!” like.....idk that’s weird to me
Like you never heard this kind of thing when people talk shit about Modi or Saudi Arabia or something - even though those criticisms could also devolve into Islamophobia or racism or weird permutations of orientalism!
Idk idk I’ll probably delete this thread, just thinking out loud. But if your first response to someone talking about human rights violations is......to preemptively move to a different kind of conversation, that’s a liiiiiiiittle weird
