I'm launching The Steal Club newsletter tomorrow.

100 people have subscribed before the release, which is amazing.

Here's how I put it together (with little to no idea)👇👇👇
☁️ Why am I moving part of my content to email?

Main reason ➞ To avoid platform risk
Other reasons ➞ Experiment with other content formats and platforms.
📙 The story

My goal is to become a full-time creator, and writing is a big part of that master plan.

My next project HAD to be a newsletter.
So I started looking for resources and help all over the internet.

It was overwhelming.

Too many opinions, too many platforms, too many set up "this or that" or your newsletter won't get readers.
And I didn't even know whether people would like the idea or not!

Why waste time setting up tech stuff or making beautiful landing pages if no one is going to read it?

I kept it lean, as I always do with new projects.

How?👇
🐦 Validating with a Tweet

I decided to ask my Twitter audience (around 4,500 followers at the time) for their opinion.

This was the tweet. https://twitter.com/AlexLlullTW/status/1374087232810856450
The response was better than expected!

A lot of people encouraged me. Someone even said they would pay for it.

OK, idea validated. Let's start building.
✉️ Finding a platform

I'm not a tech person. The easier it is to get started the better.

So I went looking for a platform that had these 3 things:

➞ Make it easy to capture emails
➞ Make it easy to write and send emails
➞ Make it easy to download the email list
My search pointed me to two platforms👇

Revue & Substack

I ended up going with Revue because of the ability to set things up under my own domain.

You can do it on Substack too but you need to pay and, again, I'm just validating at this stage.
So I had:

➞ The newsletter concept validated
➞ A cool name (The Steal Club sounds cool, right?)
➞ And around 25 people subscribed from the revue sign-up page I plugged below the validation tweet

Next I had to get to writing.
✍️ The newsletter breaks down how successful creators use social media.

As you can imagine, that implies quite a lot of research on my side. The whole process took from 8 to 10h

I will go into the process on a different thread if that's of interest.
🚀 Finally, preparing to launch. How?

➞ I bought a domain
➞ I put together a scrappy landing page on @carrd
➞ And added that link to everywhere I could (my personal site and my latest threads)

This increased signups from 25 to 100!
The release date was set for last week but I couldn't publish it for multiple reasons.

Now I can finally say it's ready and it's coming tomorrow!

With this thread, I just wanted to share what went behind building this new project.

Even if the Steal Club fails, it only cost me a few hours of my time.

So there's not much downside for the potential upside!
TL;DR

➞ Stay lean
➞ Validate the idea with a tweet and a signup page
➞ Build first, launch then iterate (if necessary)
➞ And subscribe to The Steal Club! 🕵️‍♂️
