ISRAEL- PALESTINIAN CONFLICT thread

1/ Students of IR & CPS are interested in understanding the key issues contributing to the conflict between the Arab Israel conflict.

2/ Arab Israel conflict is the dominant theme regarding the international relations of the Middle East. It manifests itself in the war between Israel and Palestine. @JLetangule

3/ The Palestinian and Israeli conflict is multidimensional. It has these aspects
1. Religion
2. Cultural
3. Economic
4. Psychological
We Must underscore the role of state and non state actors in the war.

4/ the conflict between Israel and Palestine is based on clash between Jews and Palestinians ( Arabs ) over the land of Palestine. In 1967 Israel illegally occupied the land and built the Jewish state. Palestinians have demanded for Israeli withdrawal from Gaza and West Bank.

5/ between 1948 and 1967 many Palestinians were forced to flee Israel occupied areas. In fact , they demanded all refugees to return.

6/ on religious grounds, Israel and Palestine have claimed land especially the eastern part of Jerusalem. Zionist extremists and Palestinian Nationalists want a single Jewish / Palestinian state in all of Palestine.

7/ mistakes of Israel
a) failure to implement Oslo accord
b) construction of Jewish settlement
c) Israel occupation of Palestinian land and construction of defensive wall at West Bank.
d) Israel humiliation of Palestinians.

8/ Judea was Jewish people. It was conquered by Romans who renamed it Palestine and later Arabs. The Zionist movement was aimed at restoring the Jews to Israel. In 1917 Palestine was granted to Britain to build a National home for Jewish people.

9/ Israel occupied Gaza , Sinai peninsula, West Bank and Golan Heights. East Jerusalem was annexed to Israel. Palestinians refused to recognize Israel state in 1948.

10/ Palestinians want refugees back. If the Palestinian refugees are back , it would create Arab majority and end of Israel as a Jewish state. Palestinians based their arguments on UN Resolution 194.

11/ Jews have their religious roots in Israel / Judea. Jerusalem was ancient capital of Judea & site of Jewish Holly temple. To Palestinians, Jerusalem is the site of Muslim Al -Aqsa mosque.
