Please encourage some of the young ones who just cleared high school to venture into Technical and Vocational courses. There’s huge demand for the skilled trades and they can easily become financially independent in a few years with the right kind of support and training
And the good thing is HELB now also gives out loans for TIVET courses
There’s a huge gap right now for the skilled trades. Machine Operators, Electricians, Mechanics, Plumbers, Carpenters, Masons etc.
Also, get rid of the misconception that these courses are meant for those who didn’t get higher grades. If you have a kid who has an interest in any technical course, please encourage them to pursue regardless of their grade. You’d be surprised at how brilliantly they may excel
Linking some of the Technical Schools that offers excellent courses.

1. Kenya Institute of Highways and Building Technology (KIHBT) - There's a variety of both short courses, Certificate, Diploma and Higher Diploma

2. Rift Valley Technical Training Institute (RVTI) has a lot of technical courses and facilities

For those interested in Machine Operation courses, The Institute of Lifting and Technology (TILT) in Kabete is a great institution http://www.tilt.co.ke/our_courses.html
KIST also offers many excellent diploma courses in construction https://kist.ac.ke/courses.html
Found a list of approved TVET Institutions in Kenya. The good thing is that there’s almost one in every region in this country. Fees are very affordable as well. https://kenyadmission.com/list-of-tvet-colleges-in-kenya/
Also, if you’re a more privileged parent wondering what to enroll your kid in as they wait to join the university, paying for them to acquire a skill is a good idea
