why you should not say minors can't have depression and take them seriously~ a very much needed thread

The symptoms of PDD often begin to appear during childhood or adolescence.

scrolling through my insta feed I saw a lot of posts mocking the minors talking about their depression and I just had to tweet about this

behavior problems, poor performance at school, and difficulty interacting with other children in social situations are not things to joke about , they're symptoms too

you never know about their family histories , you can't judge them. stressful or traumatic life events, such as the loss of a loved one or financial problems can cause a lot of stress not even getting starting on the parent issues

-a depressed mood almost every day or for most of the day
-having a poor appetite or overeating
-difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep
-low energy or fatigue
-low self-esteem
-poor concentration
-feelings of hopelessness

THESE THINGS ARE SYMPTOMS AND IS COMMON AMONG TEENS

you need to help them identify thoughts, behaviors, and emotions that trigger or aggravate symptoms not joke about them being minors and talking about "depression"

suicidal thoughts and self harm has gotten so normal? i see self harm polls on my tl daily and apparantly I got to know people ignore it because they are "minors"

this is not a joke! being underage doesn't mean that you can't suffer through depression, you yourself would have heard cases haven't you?

y'all may have started with your problems at 20 but some people do not have as smooth lives as you and genuinely "suffer" from mental illness from a young age

you've all seen movies and series on minors in depression, y'all love them even, why can't you take the irl cases seriously then?

laughing and mocking them only makes their condition worse why don't you understand? emotions are not bound by age

I beg you next time you see a poll or any one telling you they're not okay, distract them tell them they're loved, do NOT ignore just because they are minors.
