What is there in the @UKLabour offer today that someone could write a speech about that is filled with passionate intensity? What is their core unifying theme? Great and passionate speeches from Labour’s history come to mind but where is the passion today? What is Labour about?
In the past it was relatively straightforward, it was the workers against the bosses, removing workplace exploitation, establishing the NHS & the welfare state, workers coming together to say no to the owners, passion, intensity, a unifying purpose reinforced by shared experience
Labour has lost its socially conservative working class base and isn’t going to win them back without alienating its socially liberal supporters and losing them as well. It needs a core them that ignites passion, something people believe in, something constructive and focused on
the future. Without that, and the recognition that aspiration is a necessary part of any political offer, they are a zombie party. I think that theme should be the environment and saving the planet for your children and grandchildren. Capturing the passion shown in the climate
strikes and environmental activism and shaping it towards a green future for the country. It’s an opportunity just waiting to be taken. Red flags aren’t going to do it for them, green ones just might.
