I've been assessing statements of GCC states re the situation in Jerusalem.

All condemn Israel's storming of the alAqsa mosque. This includes the 2 signatories of the Abraham Accords UAE & Bahrain.

All condemn Sheikh Jarrah evictions.

But some differences in tone & focus.
Kuwait was first out and basically had to retract & reissue its statement due to the anger of its public which wanted something more forceful.

Holds Israel accountable for escalation and calls for fast international action to protect Palestinian rights.

Kuwait parliament speaker has called for an emergency meeting of Arab parliamentarians to address the situation in Jerusalem

And Kuwaitis are holding a sit-in in front of parliament tomorrow afternoon in solidarity w/Palestinians. https://twitter.com/3bas_awadh/status/1391831920460410882?s=21
Qatar MOFA also calls for quick action from international community, describing the assault on worshipers a "provocation to the feelings of millions of Muslims" as well as violation of HR & Int'l accords.

Qatar's Emir Tamim called Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas directly to emphasize constant support of Palestinian people & to stress need to unify Arabs. https://twitter.com/tamimbinhamad/status/1391109182259187718?s=21
Oman's statement is one of three - along w/Qatar, Saudi Arabia - to explicitly restate its commitment to Palestinian rights to establish a country w/'67 borders & East Jerusalem as capitol. https://twitter.com/fmofoman/status/1391020948405563396?s=21
The Abraham Accords states don't hold back criticism.
In similar statements Bahrain MOFA, Shura Council & parliamentary committee on Palestine all condemn the attack on worshipers in al-Aqsa.

The parliamentary statement adds some Palestinian solidarity.

UAE CP MBZ even meets w/Jordan PM to jointly express their concern about the situation in East Jerusalem and to stress pivotal historic role Jordan plays.

Interesting indirect tactic given UAE's new privileged ties w/Israel.
Saudi MOFA got out early w/rejection of Sheikh Jarrah home evictions & unilateral measures violating intl resolutions.

Saudi-based MWL issued a very similar & historically mild statement stressing need for a peaceful resolution. https://twitter.com/MWLOrg/status/1390989287596904449
Oddly neither mentioned al-Aqsa which could have been a timing issue. As Saudi MOFA followed up tonight w/a much tougher statement condemning "in the strongest terms" the "blatant attacks" against the "sanctity of al-Aqsa." https://twitter.com/ksamofa/status/1391902905293316100?s=21
So lots of statements - incl one from Sec Gen of GCC - but what of action, esp w/stakes rising after Hamas rockets and Gaza bombing? None of these Gulf states will want to see further escalation. Will they still rely on US to resolve? Can it?
