So, I decided to reread The Song of Roland (my high school self wouldn& #39;t believe how willing and excited I am to go over French epics, but sometimes VnC and Rolivier hit hard). While looking for some internet commentary, I came across the SoR TV Tropes Wiki with its gems.
Here are my top picks:
I went straight to Olivier& #39;s death scene, and Roland faints not once, but TWICE while his friend is dying. Not sure about the first one, but the second time it happens, he& #39;s on his horse and... he doesn& #39;t fall down? What& #39;s wrong with falling to the ground?
Why am I laughing so hard over the & #39;Are you angry with me& #39; line?
I can& #39;t believe they named THAT trope over THAT song, I& #39;m--
No doubt this is coming, I& #39;m just trying to mentally prepare myself for it.
Summing up! It& #39;s hard to tell how much Mochizuki-sensei is going to draw from the texts involving Roland. For instance, Gano may be Ganelon& #39;s counterpart - both are traitors who disliked Roland.
If that& #39;s the case, and there& #39;s another war, it& #39;s likely the events will follow - to some extent - the Battle of Roncevaux pass, with Olivier and Roland dying at the end.
Ah, I truly hope there& #39;s a way for them to get out alive... That& #39;s it for this thread!
