How this one screenshot proves that not only is Goro Akechi alive, but his wish was related to Akiren, a thread: #shuake #akeshu
So, let's take a moment to establish something implicit in the conditions of Maruki's reality: "A wish cannot be granted their own wish."

This is self-explanatory. It would be a neverending cycle if every single person that returned from the dead had their wish granted.
Wakaba did not. Okumura did not. Maruki says this line even when Akechi's in the party, which – while I suppose you could explain this away as "developer oversight" – means that Akechi also had a wish granted. Following this train of logic, that means that Akechi must be+
alive, otherwise his wish wouldn't have manifested.

So Akechi's alive. We knew that already. Moving on.
Here's where things get fun. So if Akechi had a wish granted, what was it? There's been some speculation about a theoretical wish of his and what it might be, but think about what might happen if, say, his mother was brought back to life... and let's discuss 2/2.
Canonically, Akiren hesitates; canonically, Akechi is smart as fuck. So say we get to the "this isn't small potatoes!" (RIP)/"this isn't trivial!" line. If Akechi's wish had been obvious – even if it was something he felt ashamed of or embarrassed to admit – his desire for+
freedom and autonomy would've forced his hand if Akiren showed any signs of hesitation. Akechi would've told him that he suspected he was still alive because his situation was different from Wakaba's or Okumura's. Easy logic.

So why didn't he?
The only thing that makes sense to me is that his wish was something he didn't notice—nothing so blatantly "wrong" that it immediately raised red flags. What wouldn't Akechi necessarily notice? Well...

... Being beside Akira? 😬 I'm aware this sounds like a slightly+
delulu ass-pull, but I genuinely cannot think of another reasonable explanation for why Akechi's wish wouldn't strike him as the least bit odd unless it was somehow related to what he was already doing, i.e. fighting alongside Akiren to take down Maruki.

There's also the+
little matter of Maruki saying that he wanted to give them both a second chance, which... well... That sort of implies Akechi's wish overlapped with Akiren's, doesn't it? Sidenote, but this would also mean that Maruki knew Akechi was alive the whole time and used it as leverage.
Just some food for thought. I'm open to debate on this as well. Once again, it could 100% just be an oversight on Atlus' part. I will say that it doesn't benefit Maruki to keep Akechi's fate a secret from the rest of the PThieves in the slightest, so I don't think that's what's+
going on here.
