Amazing, brutal, and all too true, this two-page spread by publisher Takarajimasha-sha in today’s Asahi reads: “No vaccine. No medicine. Do you expect us to fight with bamboo spears? Our politicians are killing us.”
It continues, "We are being tricked. What happened over this last year? How long are we expected to 'voluntarily restrain' ourselves? This endurance contest needs to end. Enough with the excuses. Forcing things through hasn't changed anything, has it? It's time to get angry."
To be crystal clear, this isn't directed at commonsense measures like masking or social distancing. It's directed at leaders who keep getting caught dining out, put the IOC ahead of citizens, and continue to declare emergencies without owning how they've bungled vaccinations.
Lest one think Takarajima-sha some sort of perpetually aggrieved critic, they took out this two-pager back in January, exhorting citizens to do their part in preventing the spread infections. Anger at the Japanese government's ineptitude is widespread and very real.
