Who makes healthcare decisions in your country?

In the US a patient sits down with their doctor. They work hard and, even if it’s a difficult choice, together they decide on the best course of action.

Then, two weeks later, an insurance company is like, “actually, naaah.”
Sorry, going through this right now. My doctor was like, “they always approve this, it’s standard treatment” and then the letter is like, “Ok, we’re gonna need you to try these six other things first to see if they work.”

OK WHY DO I HAVE A DOCTOR IF YOU ARE IN CHARGE?!
Chronic illness blows. I can’t imagine going through this without the level of stability I have in my life, but still, I HAVE THINGS I NEED TO DO AND THEY ARE NOT THIS.
It was a tough decision to do this even with my doctor 100% pushing for it. I talked about it with Katherine, we decided it was worth extra work and time spent on my health to decrease my risk of cancer and then just, “Oh, well, that’s not your call, actually.”
