As a Jewish kid growing up in the ‘70’s and ‘80’s, I learned to always defend Israel’s right to exist, and I still believe that, but there’s never going to be peace there as long as the Israeli government continues to oppress the Palestinians.
. @SharonBrous, The rabbi of the temple I go to occasionally (I’m not the most observant of Jews) said this and I think she’s 100% right: Israel has to “end the unjust and un-Jewish policies that have brought 54 years of degradation, humiliation and hardship to...”
“...millions of Palestinians and which threaten the democratic fiber of Israel itself.”
Jews are targets of hate and we were victims of genocide, and we’re taught to never forget that fact. But I look at how extremists in Israel are acting with hate in their hearts and it’s clear that they forgot. It’s un-Jewish. This stuff is complicated...
...and I’m certainly no expert on this situation. Israel has been surrounded by countries that would like to wipe them off the map since the nation’s founding. They have a right to defend themselves. But after decades of doing the same thing with no improvement...
... it’s past time to try something new and it’s on Israel to engage. They hold the power. I don’t hold any illusions of that happening as long as Netanyahu is around, but this violence is unsustainable and damaging to the souls of everyone there, Israeli and Palestinian alike.
There’s got to be a shared future and a shared solution if there’s going to be peace. Get on it, Israel.
