I& #39;ve noticed a few folks concerned that the study demonstrating COVID spread and deaths as a result of schools reopening in Texas isn& #39;t peer reviewed, and I think that& #39;s a fair concern! Here are some peer reviewed studies about schools and COVID with similar findings. 1/8

In Sweden, keeping schools open may have had an impact on the overall spread of COVID, particularly for teachers, teachers& #39; partners, and parents of kids in school. 3/8 https://www.pnas.org/content/118/9/e2020834118">https://www.pnas.org/content/1...

This finding was mirrored in Michigan, where public health data demonstrated K-12 schools were the leading sites for COVID outbreaks in March (this is just data, not a study). 5/8 https://www.michiganradio.org/post/k-12-schools-are-now-leading-sites-michigan-covid-outbreaks">https://www.michiganradio.org/post/k-12...

In the US specifically, the faster schools closed, the fewer people seemed to die from COVID. 7/8 https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jama/fullarticle/2769034">https://jamanetwork.com/journals/...
I think that schools & districts exist in different communities with different COVID risks & different abilities to invest in quality anti-COVID mitigation. This issue is complicated, but there& #39;s a lot of evidence that closing schools can save lives and prevent COVID spread. 8/8
n.b. I still think the best way out is through a paid lockdown while we get as many folks vaccinated as possible. I don& #39;t want school building closed forever. No one wants that. I do want children, families, and school staff to be safer than what we have now.
