being pagan & living with mental illness 🧵
Some of you might not know, but my religious affiliation can be most closely described as Druidry. I actually studied to become a priest with Ar nDraiocht Fein, but had to drop out once my mental health began to decline.
My religion also ties into the practice of witchcraft, which I don’t have the bandwidth to fully describe in this thread but am open to questions! I will say, however, that a big part of it is working with your own intuition.
But how does one work with their intuition when they are in a state of delusion? Quite frankly when you’re in the heat of a delusional episode, you can’t. And this becomes frustrating trying to find the balance.
Some practitioners believe in the idea of clairvoyance, which if you didn’t already know is the ability to see into the future. Often it can be done via scrying methods, some tarot or palm readings, and other times it’s simply understood to be hit with a Feeling.
For me, one of my biggest delusions related to religion and witchcraft is the idea that I’m clairvoyant. It’s triggered most often when I can accurately predict a situation that most people would be able to anticipate, such as being cut off by an obviously reckless driver
Coincidence becomes delusions when I am CONVINCED that this was bestowed upon me by gods. In the moment, nothing can shake that belief. I usually don’t vocalize it, but it shakes me to my core.
